A Small Lemon Bakery Review
These are my own opinions, etc.
Equipment: I used a Sigelei 30W at various wattages with a single .5 microcoil on a Magma, and Reo Grand LP with RM2. 1.0 single microcoil, wicked with KGD cotton.
Lemon Vanilla Cake - Ahlusion (50/50, 12mg):
Tastes like zesty lemon poundcake in vape form. This was the first lemon cake vape I ever tried, and so it is my standard.
The lemon flavor has bite, like lemon zest that stings my tongue a little. I would say it's sharper than the others, light in texture and just sweet enough to qualify as a dessert. I don't find it to be overpoweringly strong, yet after vaping it for a long time I notice my mouth getting a little numb as with the beginnings of vaper's tongue, and this makes me switch to a different juice. I wonder if this is from a natural lemon oil? Not sure.
The vanilla note is fleeting, appearing and then disappearing.
The cake is on exhale, and very delicate with a slightly dry crumbly taste, and it is smoothly blended into the background, behind the lemon. The aftertaste I get with LVC is lemon, not cake. I don't think there is a lot of flavor depth, but it is very clean tasting.
Alice in Vapeland - Lemon Loves Cake (Default Mix - 3 MG):
Alice in Vapeland - Lemon Loves Cake (70 PG / 30 VG - 2 MG * Max Flavor *):
Both of these versions were similar. I really couldn't detect enough of a difference to write a separate review for each.
Mild and pleasant enough, but forgettable. The lemon here isn't bad, and neither is the cake. The problem is, it's weak. You shouldn't have to be still and quiet and concentrate with closed eyes to taste something. The surprising thing was that it generated quite a lot of vapor for this PG/VG ratio. I asked a non-vaping friend what the vapor smelled like. He said it had a slightly sweet, pleasant scent he couldn't identify. I think that is a good description of the taste, as well. What flavor there is, is pretty good and was like a tease, making me wish for more.
Despite my hopes for max flavor with v.2, to me it was just the same, I tried it on both mods and at different wattages, but the flavor just never woke up. I get the feeling this may have been developed for those who might be offended by bold flavors. Very light cake, very light vanilla, very light lemon. It's nice, in a Shirley Temple kind of way.
P.S. I have never seen any of the famous pretty packaging, or even the original bottle. So this is a review of the juice and nothing but the juice.
Sleeping Dragon Vapor - Lemony Spunket (50 PG / 50 VG - 3 MG):
+ lemon boost version
Both of these versions were so similar that I have combined them into one review.
My first thought was, this is not very Lemony, despite the name. There is a pale lemon flavor, but it is not tangy, tart or zesty. It's a little bit like a sweet lemon drop candy. However...it has such a delicious warm, creamy, moist, buttery cake that it almost didn't matter. I got so entranced with this amazing flavor that I completely enjoyed it and actually forgot for a few minutes that it was supposed to be a lemon cake. The lemon is like an accent, or an asterisk. But the cake flavor is a winner!
v.2 had the slightest bit more lemon. Not enough to make a difference, though.
This might be worth the trouble of spiking with a little separate lemon flavoring, but only if that does not interfere with the fantastic base cake flavor. Or I might just enjoy it as is, and rename it "Spunket".
P.O.E.T. - Nonne Torta al Limone:
First impression is that this one tastes different from any of the others I've tried so far. They seem to use a different lemon. A sweet-tart lemon that doesn't sting like zest does. Something like Meyer lemons, perhaps. The cake flavor is rich and dense. I get a sense of a softly spiced pastry, but what is the spice? Cardamom, maybe? Just a touch. There is an unusual powdered-sugar melty taste that I really like. Tangy and mouthwatering lemon, and the wonderful creamy cake flavor holds its own on a mech with low ohm/high temps. I love this level of sweetness, which may be attributed to the powdered sugar sensation I mentioned. It's delicious and actually has some complexity and depth while remaining a light lemon cake, and the flavors are unique. This is a real stand out.
Beantown Vapor - Lemonem from Giant Vapes (30 PG / 70 VG - 3 MG):
This one was a surprise, because it has everything I want a lemon cake vape to taste like, yet it's actually a glazed lemon cookie! For this taste test, I'm treating it like a lemon cake, though. I get a very good lemon flavor, and I don't have to hunt for it. But the lemon here is not tart or zesty, but a softer lemon flavor, more similar to AiV and LS lemon, only there's more of it. The cake element is buttery and rich, with creamy vanilla goodness. What I really like about this one is the even balance of cake (cookie), cream, and lemon flavor. The taste lingers for a few seconds. On a mech I get the barest hint of cinnamon on exhale, just a bare whisper. This is seriously good stuff.
Final thoughts: These were all high quality, and none of them gave me any BUT (Bad Unidentified Taste). They were all clean tasting and very good, for different reasons. I would very happily vape almost any of them anytime. (AiV's Lemon Loves Cake only if none of these others were available.) It took some effort to adjust for the very low nic level, going from 12mg to 2 or 3mg, then back to 12!
So far, these are all of the lemon bakery juices I've ever tried. The next I'm looking forward to, is Clouds of Icarus Lemon Bar.
P.O.E.T. Nonne Torta al Limone gets the 1'st place for it's unusual and exceptionally delicious taste. Will be a treat vape for special occasions!
Beantown - Lemonem - Best glazed lemon cookie, with a great balance of delicious flavors.
Ahlusion - Lemon Vanilla Cake - Zestiest lemon, but the cake didn't quite measure up to some of the others. Still a very good lemon cake.
Sleeping Dragon - Lemony Spunket - Too bad the lemon got lost, because it has the best cake flavor, hands down.
AiV- Lemon Loves Cake - Mild and polite, but wasn't serious enough to satisfy.
Thanks DJLEC, for your generosity and for the fun and very rare opportunity to compare all of these lemon bakery juices side by side! Much appreciated!
