Here's a document that has been very handy for me.

You might try this online tool, just enter the stats of your wire and set the target resistance and diameter of what you are wrapping around (drill bit, jig etc) and it will tell you how many wraps you need. Coil wrapping | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators

Being a cranky old fart, I always liked 36-24-36 the best in measurements

At ~.28Ω per inch...about two inches for the wraps and a bit more for the legs. Make as many loops as you can on whatever you use as a mandrel.
