Many thanks for all the work done on this thread (including the awesome spreadsheet) ! Newbie here and trying to soak this all in. I just wish there was a standard coil wrapping tool. I bought me a precision screwdriver (much easier for me to get the coils started) set in hopes of being able to use that in all my future builds but it looks like I need a toolbox just for all the coil wrapping objects from safety pins to music wire haha

There is. It's called fingers. Nothing works better if you hands are capable of doing it and the best thing is you can't lose em. :D

It's hardly "dead", however, not many have posted their results using dual coils, which seem to be getting more popular each day. Trust me, if someone posts a new configuration, with all the information for the spreadsheet, it will be updated. Even so, it is still a handy "reference" for starting points.

I'll be making my 1st coils for my new Reo Grand tonight! So this thread has been a helpful start.

The wire I've ordered still hasn't come in yet (100' of each 26ga, 28ga, and 30ga), but I didn't want to wait on it anymore with the weekend starting and all. So I picked up some 28 & 30ga today at lunch from my local B&M.

From what I've seen I should probably work with a 1/16 bit? Maybe I'll feel different once I've started, but it just seems so small, will I even be able to get cotton in that small of a coil? Well I guess we'll see.

I think I'll be happy if I come out around 1-1.3 Ohms. So from what I've read maybe 8 or so wraps with 28ga.

Oh, and my coil building experience is limited to the few I've done for my ST Mini using 24ga, came out to 0.6 Ohm

1/16", 28g, 8 wraps great starting point. Use as a reference and go from there. 8 wraps is good number for true single "microcoil'. Gives good surface area around wick. More than 9/10 wraps too much, less than 6 not enough. I would stay between 6/8 wraps for a single coil setup then adjust to taste, warmth, & flavor by changing resistance by changing gauge of wire. 28,29,30 being the most popular.

HERE is a link to a video SuperX did on building/wicking, worth a watch to get you going with ease :)

If you're in a rush and want to cut to the chase, it's at about 10 minutes in exactly, but I'd really recommend you watch how he cuts the KGD at the start.
