I am all new to the RTAs and love it. I love the coil building, wicking tweaking and so on.
But...I would love to be able to work on coil builds without breaking down my current rta to do so.
Having a rebuild deck that I could use to hook my coils to for ohm checking and to see how a particular build will fire would be nice.
So....is my best option to just go to fasttech or some similar site and order a very cheap clone or some RTA and just use the deck or is there a website that has build decks as a stand alone item?

Thanks for any help!

Doesn't seem like the best idea to me.

Coil builds are generally specific to the device you're building on, seems counter-intuitive to build on one deck, then move to another as it may not fit correctly or make the most of the space you have available.

I suppose you could buy an RDA to do what you want to do, for practice, but moving those coils over seems like it'd be hard work!

I tend to agree with RAWR... as far as the logic of somehow expecting the same response from two different atomizers.

However, I don't understand the logic of this comment...

"hook my coils to for ohm checking and to see how a particular build will fire"

It's completely unnecessary... if you use a build modeler like Steam Engine, and learn a bit of basic electrical theory and math... the results will be as accurate as the information you can insert into the program.

Are you currently using a RTA that does not allow you access to the build deck on demand? Consider getting one that does, eg Kayfun V4.

Others have mentioned the caveats. To answer your question: Focalecig have Goblin clones for $10 that you could use for playing about with dual coil builds.
$9.50-$9.99 Goblin Style Rebuildable Tank Atomizer - Silver 4.2ml

Gearbest sell Kayfun V4 decks as 2 lots for under $10

Thanks all for the response...and links doofy666,

Yes I am aware that each deck has its own particulars....I get that the wicking and all is a part and parcel of that one particular tank...
I currently am using a Lemo 2 which has been a very good tank so far...its working for me with no leaks, good flavor, easy to build and the easiest to fill off any tank I've ever used.
However...the deck is not tank full accessible and and I do not want to be without my ability to vape while I sit and build coils of and give them a try to see how they work out.
I would enjoy having a build deck to plug in a coil just to see how it ohms out...and fire to see how its heating...or not.
I am new to this...am retired and love to tinker(hobby) the coil building...its just hard down fun.
So if I had a deck to try a build on just to see how it ohms out...to check the coil heat...and it seems to be something I want to try..then I'll break down my Lemo 2 and give it a try and then make adjustments from there.

I used the build that came with my Lemo 2 and it was ok..but got some burping and popping so I downed and did my first ever coil build and did not have a dry hit, no leaks and great flavor...but it ohmed out a little higher than I wanted so on my second try I got everything like I wanted.
I've seen many on this site and others that just gave up after many, many builds because they couldn't get it right...I am one who like the a fantastic carpenter once told about his success...."You just have to measure twice or three times and cut once"....so with that tib bit of info many, many years ago..that's the way I approach everything I do.

Though measuring twice on a different deck does not mean sweet success in the actual tank I will be using the coil in..it will get me close enough to then only have to make minor adjustments...and it gives me something to do as I watch and listen to Rip, Pete B and others Youtube about the wonderful world of vaping!!!

And as I mentioned above - consider a Kayfun V4. Easy access to build deck, easy top fill. A bit of a learning curve, but nothing too problematic; it was my first RTA. EHPro, Tobeco, Infinite make respected clones. Less air than Lemo tho.

And how about hybrids? If a Kayfun V4 tank fits on an atty base then you have access to deck on demand for various other attys. Silverplay, Goblin, Orchid, will all accept a K4 tank. Goblin and orchid clones are cheap and the Gearbest links above will lead you to the 2 lots required for a K4 tank.

Yes I see your point in your response...I do.

I was figuring ohm's law with a slide rule in electronics classes back before a calculator was little more than just a thought....Hahaha...I'm an old fart...been around the block many, many times.
I do use Steam Engine for ohm's law, coil wrapping, battery drain etc....very good app but that does not allow me to see how a the cloud production will be on a a particular build...and I know it will be somewhat different in my Lemo 2 or any other tank that I might in the end use....but I can see the coil/wick fire and then go from there!

I do not expect the same results on a build and check deck as I would in the tank I use...but I may want to sit down and make up a bunch of new coils...try several different ones just to see how hard/easy they are to do and what the results are. Does it work at all?? Do I want to go through this much effort just to see a very similar cloud production?
I am a cloud chaser..I do nic free vaping...my wife is a niccer so what I do I do because I love the hobby side of it.
I smoked from the age of 13 until I found out I had to or live a much shorter life about 25 years ago but the vaping is a hobby and a way of keeping my wife up to date and on the road to giving up the nic need as well.

I love learning though...if I don't learn something new everyday...I feel I have failed the day's assignment...so when I see Rip Trippers do a Clapton, Sleeper, Nano Dragon, Macro, Mini or some other coil build I might want to try..then I can quick coil it...hook it on to my quick check deck..ohm it out...and if its about right..wick it..wet it and fire it...if I'm impressed with the what I see...then I know I might want to try it on my Lemo 2...it more about the chase than the kill with the "coil and try deck"...then if the build looks worthy..I'll try it on my Lemo 2 and go from there!!

Then you don't need another old fart holding your hand as we walk that worn, cracked concrete... telling you things you already know... but are too much of an Alzheimery ol' geezer to remember it all.

Am I right? ;)

I passed the city limits of Geezerville many years ago...been settled in and just trying to find a little comfort in this new fangled way to have some....somewhat safe way to have a little fun!!

It sounds to me as if a Rebuildable Dripping Atomiser (RDA) is the kind of thing you might be looking for. It's a build deck with a top cap but no tank that you coil, wick and then add (drip) a small amount of liquid to before using.

Yeah....I pretty much came to that conclusion last night while looking at some offerings of decks and cheap clone RTAs.
I am going to start mixing my own juice and I want/need a RDA for testing juice anyway so might as well go ahead and make the jump to one or two now and be done with it.
I wanted to get this RTA down before moving on to DIY juice but no reason not to get a couple of RDAs now and move into the juice business later!!

Thanks for the response!!

If you just want to practice making coils and seeing how they perform I would just get an RDA.

Granted the coils will perform differently in a tank, you still get the experience.

RTA units all have their respective wicking methods. That's the one thing you'll be missing out on. After figuring out RTA wicking you'll see that RDA wicking is much more simple and you can get away with things you can't in a tank.

If you want the most experience try different RTAs.

Also, don't try any twisted, Clapton, crazy wire until you're completely confident in your coil and wicking ability. It's not teaching you anything besides messing around with bare wire. Steam engine becomes a tool to check what you already know rather than a guide of what to do.

Yeah I've spent hours with the Steam Engine app....and its a good app for getting one familiar with how things work.

I realize that the tanks will behave differently...wicking and total resistance of coil/deck but for me and what I want to do an RDA will work fine for me to sit down with 3/4/5 different gage wire, different wicking material and wind coils in the different gages and quickly sticking them in a deck and ohming them out, wick them and fire and just see how it looks. If its anywhere near what I like/want...then I'll stick it in my Lemo 2 and fine tune if needed..

I got nothing to do but take care of my wife, walk and feed my dog....hahahaha...so this is my way out.

Thanks for the response and advice!!

Now...to figure out which RDA is a good investment!

I do have 2 bases for my Kayfun. Partly for that reason. But i never have an issue waiting till the tanks are empty to play with a coil or change the wicks. Sometimes it take a couple tanks of juice and wick changes for a coil to get "broke-in".

I just ordered a Mutation X V4 to use the base for quick making and checking....just to get me in the ballpark...If the Lemo 2 would allow me to access the deck without a mess...then that would not be bad and I'd just have a couple of extras to use while I build on the deck of the Lemo 2!

Thanks for the response!
