I have had an absolute nightmare lately, I had a kangertech subox mini kit that ran perfectly for about three years before it died. I replaced this with a Tesla wye200 and OBS Engine Nano based on some good reviews but no matter what I cannot get more than a few days before the coil dies. I used to rebuild the coil on the kangertech every 3-4 weeks which was fine but I am sick of rebuilding coils. Is there that holy grail of a tank that will last 3-4 weeks of use? My preferred vape on the kangertech was .5 build at around 23.5-25 watts depending on how the cool performed. Currently it’s running at 19 on the Tesla which is ok but lacks flavour and seems to get hot quicker. I have a tendency to chain vape when I get a break at work and in the evenings. I could really use a bit of advice, been struggling a little to stay away from the smokes the last few weeks, despite being off them for three years now. Thanks in advance

Coils on a non cartridge device dying in days? It should be months unless you are using really fine wire. Something is very not right. Do you mean wick? The cotton wick can go bad quite quickly depending on juice and temperature. You shouldn’t need to replace the coil though, just the wick. Are you dry burning?

I suspect shorting or some sort of weird miscoiling. It could also be you’re using some sort of wire that can’t be dry burned in which case, yes. There will be allot of recoiling.
Do you have pics perchance? It might explain things.

FTFY

Tell us about the coil you have installed; ID,wire type, coil type, resistance, wicking material, coil position?
Tell us about your juice: very sweet?, max VG" fruit or dessert flavour? PG/VG ratio, Nicotine level.
Are you taking a slow MTL draw using a high airflow build/device?

Cheers

What wire type are you using and what mode are you using on the mod - sorry, but referring to basics for some more info. From what little i remember of the Tesla it could have confusing modes on it

The OBS Tanks are generally solid tanks, so id err on either the wire/build and/or mod settings being the root cause

Thanks for the replies, in the obs I was using 26ga kanthal 2.5mm ID 5 wrap giving about .6 ohm and cotton bacon. In the subtank i am using the same wire but at 2mm giving .5 ohm. The juice i use is Zeus juice the black reloaded, it’s relatively sweet and generally I use 50/50 rather than 70/30 because it wicks better.

Your wire should be lasting months then, not days. The cotton much less than that of course. Still missing something here.
What wattage? Is the coil shorting? Are you dry burning between wicks?

And youre using the Kanthal mode on the Tesla? You should not be having any coil issues in that case, unless..possibly...

2 other things to check

1) check, if you have another mod, that the tank reads roughly the same resistance on more than one mod.
2) the preheat settings on the Tesla

I am currently running it at 19.5w on the subtank and has another go with the engine at 24w last night. All the settings on the mod are at normal although I have tried soft it wasn’t for me.
If you are not using spaced coils, try that, however all things considered; it sounds like a wicking issue.
Try using less cotton and/or thin your wick tails if needed.

Teslacig's boards (IMHO) can often read a coil high, and also seem to do a remarkably efficient job of converting power. When I use my steampunk it is ALWAYS at a lower setting than many of my mods but with that said, it shouldn't be killing coils off in a day. Spaced coils may or may not help.

Have you tried it with any drop in coils or other tanks? If it's consistently killing off coils of various types, perhaps something is going on with the mod but even THEN, wow it sounds like something is off. I mean, try turning it down to where you are JUST getting a satisfying or even slightly unsatisfying vape and etc., because yeah, my steampunk is on roids although I guess the problem could become exponential at higher wattages and I don't use those.

I wish I had better advice.
