I just received a smok sid vv/vw apv. I've been using clearomizers and have been getting very inconsistent results. I bought different coil resistances and all seen to be the same. I get a burnt taste, no taste, little to no vapor after a few hits. I've tried lowering watts and nothing seems to really work. I've switched to a 50/50 mix thinking that would work better but same results. What should I try next? Are the carto tanks better? Will they give me more flavor and everything more consistently? Will a bottom coil clearo work better? I just need something that works lol. Thanks.

I like the carto tanks better.
They're a pain in the ... to fill.
First time it leaked all over the place.
Once I got rolling though. It was a lot better than most clearos.
I've tried a few different ones. Best ones I've found are the Mega Magma ones from Volcano. They're around $10 for a 5 pack.

I ditched my Magma setup because the cartos were so hard to fill. If you're really, really patient and have bionic eyesight, though, they do work OK.

Over a year in vaping, I've occassionally tried clearomizers and gotten similar results as you: harsh vape, muted flavors, inconsistancy. The last couple that I bought just recently weren't too bad (Vision 3), but were only good for about a week. I would expect something for that price to last much longer than that.

I've heard of better results with the bottom coiled clearos such as the Kanger ProTank uses, plus its made of pyrex glass so it would be safe for all flavors of juice. Although I'm not a fan of its proprietary mouthpiece, there probably will be one in my future at some point.

What I've used almost exclusively for almost a year are pyrex cartotanks. I've gotten more flavor and consistancy with them than any string-wicked delivery device. The Vivi Nova's aren't bad, but you still need to tip them frequently to keep the wicks wet; not so with a cartotank. I was always fearful of using a Vivi Nova on a mod in a pocket for fear of it leaking or breaking; not so with a cartotank. I've never had one leak or come apart accidentally.

Here's a picture dictionary of the more common juice delivery devices I made for new vapors: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...k-what-primer-juice-delivery-attachments.html

If you find that article useful, I've written others on a cartotank setup tutorial, a list of vendors that sell pre-punched cartomizers, and a review of the popular and recommended pyrex tank IBTanked in my blog:

I was going through the same thing with the carto tanks just a few days ago. I got some help from the folks here and have been able to get great, consistent results.

Check out Baditude's blog entry on carto tank setup here:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3710-5-cartomizer-tank-setup.html

This very-easy-to-follow method will have you up and running in about 10 minutes. Filling the tank itself is a piece of cake. Getting the cartomizer primed can be tricky at first, but if you take your time, it is easy. Once you have done it properly once, going forward, you should be able to get great results consistently.

Definitely check that out. It made a night and day difference for me.
