I'm sure this has been asked before. I did a quick search but didn't find exactly what I’m looking for... quite a lot of things pop up when searching for good tasting wick on ECF.

I've recently gotten into the rba game and I’m noticing that there is good wick and bad wick out there. Some wick's that come with my device seem to taste better than the silica rope that I order online to rebuild it with. I've been looking at the website silicawicks.com and have heard some okay things about their wick and also someone on eBay that goes by the name Vinnie that supposedly has some good wick (couldn’t find his page though). The wick I’ve ordered so far from various online stores doesn’t seem to taste very good.

So I’m just wondering were everyone is ordering their wick from and who's got the good stuff.

I ordered silica from thehouseofvapor.com and its some pretty good wick, and a good price for 2mm I paid .25 a foot. I normally take a torch until it glows orange. I've read that some people boil it then torch it, but just torching it works for me. The flavor is pretty good and it won't break the bank.

The price is cheap but how is it compared to other places that sell bulk silica wick?

Are you touching the whole piece you use before coiling it? Or are you just dry burning it good after?

Cool! I didn't realize their silica was braided since they don't mention it. I've wanted to try braided silica wick, would imagine it holds together better than the normal twisted.

I torch it before I build a coil. I don't really do dry burns. I bought like 30 feet, so when ever the taste starts to drop I just build another coil

Do you torch it until it changes color, or just run it over a few times? I've never done this and am thinking maybe this might fix some of my taste issues. Not quite sure how much to torch it though.

I've read from 10-15 seconds. Haven't tried it yet, oddly enough having trouble finding a place that sells butane lighters. It's suppose to get rid of that funky taste that takes a litte bit to go away on a fresh wick.

Dumb question... what's rtd?

When I torch my wick I do I for a few seconds. I just stated doing it when I got my killer. I bought an oddy clone a while back and didn't care for the taste. I started searching the forum and found a thread talking about torching silica. From what I've seen when I torch my wick it will turn a slight shade of black, just keep torching until it turns white again. I've also noticed that when I torch my wick it gets a little stiffer. If u have a harbor freight near by you can get a pretty cheap butane torch, I'm actually just using a butane torch lighter that I use for my grill.

I only torch the section that's going to receive the coil. Torching the whole thing can make it very fragile and leave you with a lot of powdered silica when you bend it to fit whatever atty you're coiling. Just torching the middle section gives you the flavor benefit without the fragility, IME.

ekowool from Russia I heard works well--it's braided too. Not available in the states though.

Cool, thanks for the responses guys. I made a coil last night with some wick I got from liberty flights... actually came out tasting really good. Not sure if my coiling is getting better or if the silica they sell is really good... in still kinda new. First time I used liberty flights silica. It's thin, probubly only 1mm, but I doubled it up in a Phoenix v3 and its working really good. Torched the section the coil sits in real quick as well.

Hey Thrasher,

Wanted to give a thanks for pointing out this wick from RTD. I've just used it for a day, a small piece in my new IGO-S, and really like it. You're right, it does unravel easily, but it doesn't seem to matter and it doesn't seem to be breaking apart as easy as the twisted silica I used before. Just early impressions of course, but so far seems like what I was looking for. Wicks and tastes fantastic.
