Silica wick in a dripper..

Is it okay to use silica 2mm wick in an rda? I've been using organic boiled cotton for my wicks, but I recently ordered some more kanthal and they had some silica for dirt cheap so I picked some up too. Is it safe to use? How well does it wick compared to cotton? Do I need to torch it prior to use? Any and all help is appreciated.

Absolutely! I started with silica in my RDAs. I just double looped the silica and wrapped my coils around them. I also torched the silica to make it easier to handle while wrapping coils around them

What chemxsol said , it comes down to preference I like and prefer cotton, and others swear by silica, try er on out, and see what you like.

I'm one of those who swear by silica. Double it over, wrap a coil and drip away. I see no reason to ever switch to cotton wicks.

I use 1/16" coils, what size silica can be used with this? Currently using cotton, but curious to try the silica.

I just tried a small piece of silica for my 1/16" dia. coil. I took 3 strands of the four, doubled it up and pulled it thru with a wire. When I had that done I decided to torch it to burn off any impurities, and all kinds of little pieces came off of it. I musta done something wrong. I sure wouldn't vape that. I'd better go find a preparing silica wick 101 thread, and read it.
