If I may offer a thought or two....

I vape high vg juices. Either 100vg or less than 20pg.
I have tried cartomizers, ce4's, eVod's iClear 16's, iClear 30's, mini protanks, big protanks, bridgeless dripping atomizers, rda's, smok slim pyrex dct (dual coil carto tank), in essentially that order.

I also have been really concerned about inhaling the wicking material. Far more so with silica than with cotton.

I find, with my juices, be they home made or store bought, that it is important to give the wicking material time to absorb the juice, no matter which topper you go with. I also found that once I went with bottom coil clearo's/tanks (such as protank), a top coil (like the iclears) just seemed.......dry to me.

In any case, I feel that cotton is better than silica. I also feel that if you have your wick super wet, there is less chance of inhaling wicking material.

I often will take my coil head on my protanks, attach it to an evod bottom, and use a pair of needle nose pliers to gently take the middle shaft off of the top. I then remove the "flavor wick" (loose piece of silica on top of the coil) and drip a drop of ejuice right on the coil/silica. I then replace the flavor wick with some sterile cotton, and put the shaft back on. I install said coil head on the protank base, fill up the tank, put it all together, and stand it up so that the juice can get all where it is supposed to go. I wait a few minutes, take a couple of "primer puffs" (no power) and I am good to go for most of the day. It sounds like a lot, but really the whole process takes just a minute, and can improve your overall vape by miles. I can provide photos if you like and request.

It's when he started asking about breathing wick, filler (and that will go for your tanks too), that I sorta let it be. I see you didn't address that question neither.

I addressed it but if you like I'll be more clear.

Clearomizers including protank clearomizers do not wick high vg juices well unmodified due to their design.

The Protank and those that use the bottom coil evod heads perform better than the top coil clearos because they arent fighting gravity as much.

If you look closely at the vendors sites many of them still do refer to protanks and iclears as clearomizers as well. This is partially to avoid confusion as different juice delivery devices will perform better with different juices.

I havent run into any wicking issues with my 2 hole cartos. This is because they use a silicon wrap that has a much larger surface area than the wicks used in a clearo. As a result they absorb and feed more juice to the coil when surrounded by juice in a tank. This also eliminates those dry hits or yuck some are associating with cartos.

cartos and carto tanks are two vastly different beasts.

Ive actually had my XL Smoktech cartos absorb so much juice after a couple of weeks that they have expanded and caused the carto to come lose from its connector. At that point I just push it firmly back onto the base (might have to wiggle it back and forth a few times) and enjoy another week before replacing them.

If youve found something that works for you, by all means continue using it but I highly recommend giving carto tanks a try.Outside of dripping and rbas I find them to offer the most flavor while being much more convenient.

I have vaped 95% VG juice in a carto tank for a year. Actually, I tried vaping 100% VG which is Glycerin USP, no water, no nic, no flavor no nothing and straight out of the bottle in the carto tank and it worked fine. It only made a lot of vapor though. Success with vaping high percentage VG in a cart tank requires either skill in punching cartos (which I have) or good luck in picking a pre-punched carto.

I took my protank mini 2 coil and pulled the silica wick out with tweezers. I then took some sterile cotton, twisted it a bit then gently fed it through the coil and pulled it with the tweezers. I cut the excess off with fingernail clippers and used the tweezers again to space out the coils. I then dripped a little juice on the cotton, assembled everything and let it sit for about 10 mins. Cotton is so much better than silica! I'm going to attempt doing something similar to the dual coil on my aerotank.

I vape high vg and the only thing I've found that can handle it properly is rebuilds.
Carto tanks cant wick fast enough, I got nothing but burnt track pants taste after about 2ml.
Stock clearos worked better but can't run any power.
I used stainless wick vivi nova heads for over a year before I started rebuilding t3s with cotton. The stainless heads leaked bad but delivered excellent flavor. The cotton t3s were the best, but that's when I decided to stop screwing around and get a rebuildable. Now I'm never going back.

A couple of drops of distilled water can make a huge difference. start out with one drop per 2ml and see how it goes for you.

You must not have been using the right cartos. If you ever feel like giving them another try look into Ikenvape Platinum XLs and the single coil Smoketech 2 hole flanged XL cartos from Smoktek.com

Another comment on this: not sure how well they work with very high VG juices but many folks here swear by cartotanks. I have a couple, just put one on now actually, and they are super hassle free and with a good carto product TONS of vapor and flavor. I'd think they would be great especially for folks newer to vaping.

Another option if you want the taste, vaport, etc. you can get from RDAs but not comforable jumping into that yet would be good ol' 510 dripping attys. Get a few bridgeless wickless 510s and drip away, work great with heavy vg juices, and you'll get amazing vapor, flavor, throat hit, all of it. Also will give you the experience of dripping so you'll know if RDAs are even the right path for you to follow.

I've been wanting to try dripping with the wickless but I just haven't been able to find what I'm looking for online. A lot of times they get mixed up with regular cartos and I never know what exactly to buy.

I'm in the 100VG boat to, anything over 20% PG and I get stomach cramps. I had one hell of a time finding devices to vape 100% VG until I discovered RDA. They are not really that complicated to build and wow do they bring out the flavor. I was able to rebuild a few Pro tank heads with cotton that worked good. I just got a Kayfun clone that works well, buts its a rebuildable type device. I have been vaping the Mt. Bakerr Vapor 70% VG 30% distilled water with great success. The 70VG 30 water mix works well in my Nautilius, and in the Kanger aerotank.

smoktech duals and boge singles. And no thanks, why would I want to downgrade to a 4 banger when I have twin turbo v8 performance out of my rebuildables.

Anyone have a thought of how Velvet Cloud Vapor VG juice would do in an iClear 30B? (bottom coil) VCV juice is pre diluted and the stuff I ordered is not dark, however it did not work in a Joye 510-t at all.

I vape VCV in bottom coil PT2 and PT2 minis but I remove the wick and replace with cotton. Also, make sure the wick is saturated before the first draw or the cotton will burn. The only issue I have is that the coils gunk up fairly quickly but I'm sure it's the bakery flavors I choose. I vape only VG juices and don't have this problem with other flavors. But Mewlew's is so worth it!

Any way to ungunk the coils?

Yea, dry burn, but I find that the coils just don't last after they're gunked. I haven't wrapped one on the PT yet but that will be next. I can wrap a Kayfun so should be able to handle the PT. I believe they will last much longer than the factory wrapped which just aren't good quality to begin with.
