Is the SS harder to work with than 7068?

Much! She's a beast....

Corey, will these SS be the hardest material you've used for a mod, as in most resistant to damage and dings etc?

It is most certainly the hardest material, to date. It'll be more ding resistant, for sure. Though, it is heavier than aluminum, so it'll hit the ground with more force, if dropped....

Sooooo at this point Corey do you think you will do any more SS?? ;)

:D

If so,....they won't be 80%'ers...

I just almost bit off more than I can chew with these...

If there were enough interest, I'd have to do the standard run of 25, with all the heavy machining done on a more rigid machine. :thumb:

80%? I missed something didn't I?
SS sounds awesome and it finishes even better than aluminum. Oh the possibilities......

ETA: You are milling SS on a sx2 based machine? Holy Shiite! That has to be frustrating.

I don' know if it's been said before,.........but stainless is HARD...

I'm tryin' to get DB's SS mod caught up to where the brass and copper are, so that I can be working on all three, at the same time. :thumb:

So far,....it's been slow goin'.....but we're gettin' 'ere... :)

You'll notice here, that I think we've found the limits of the rigidity of my little mill......

With everything locked down, we're still getting some chatter....

That being said, I think all six of these SS mods are gonna have the V1 squonk port...

A four flute endmill at slower rpm's would produce less chatter than a two flute would in SS ;)

(I'm warning all of you right now...there had better be 24 other people willing to sign on board when that time comes :D)

...why am I listening to Korn right now, and enjoying it :|

I'd be in for a SS one the next time they come around, so that leaves 23 left......

I will make a binding commitment to seriously consider it ;)

Corey your poor little mill has seen lots of heavy use and abuse:shock: ...... I was worried for it's safety when you were doing the first 7068..... Now you're milling SS

Hey, Tom. :D

Indeed! I have a machinist buddy with a Bridgeport, who did about 80% of the heavy milling on a few pieces of stainless. As can be seen over the last few pages, it still left me with quite a bit of work... Going forward, I believe it best to let him do 100% of the heavy machine work, given that his machine is rigid enough to handle it.

I do believe I have found the outer limits of what these little mills are capable of. :)

A four flute endmill at slower rpm's would produce less chatter than a two flute would in SS ;)

You got that right...

2 flute's beatin' the crap out of it....

I'ma hafta git me one... ;)

Corey, I will most certainly be getting in line for SS as soon as some other obligations are fulfilled. Told myself I'd own one in every material you make them in (the three varieties of aluminum counting as one, lol). So, I'll buy SS as soon as I can, Ti when you start making them, and sterling silver when those come down the pike. ;)

If it makes you feel better - a lot of us are old vapers that keep bumping into one another all over the forum.

And i liked to go in fancy dress - black gloves, black boots and otherwise naked. 'What have you come as Trunker?', 'The 5 of spades'.
