Indeed! Once I get the copper in my hot little hands, I shall turn over the enormous chunk of super metal, to be whittled down into mod sized chunks. 'sgonna be awesome....

With Nauti's help, I was able to score a good sized piece of the 7068, for a decent price. Still 4 times more than 6061, and twice the price of 7075,....but in a mod sized chunk, we're not talkin that much money...

It'll cost a little more to machine, but I don't wanna be chargin' a bunch more for 'em... They will be the same price as the 7075 is now($450). After the first batch, if things go well,... I'll see if there's some savings to be had, at the machine shop... I'd like to make 7068 the standard aluminum for these mods, and get 'em down a little in price...

Beings that 7068 is 80% the strength of titanium, my machinist buddy is apprehensive... I think after the first batch, he'll see that it's not so horrible to machine.....;)

Did I mention that 7068 is WAY lighter than titanium??? :?:

Lighter then titanium? I mean aluminum is light already and I know titanium weighs next to nothing so this 7068 is even lighter then that?
Excuse my dumb questions I'm new to this. I can picture stainless steel to titanium and Ithink I might have a fair idea what a aluminum CC would weigh, I just have no comparison for the rest.

Aluminum is lighter than titanium. Ti has a much better strength to weight ratio than most aluminum alloys. With the advent of 7068, you have an aluminum alloy that is lighter than Ti, and also has a higher strength to weight ratio. :thumb:

Also, more electrically conductive.....:)

I was thinking more about the dent, ding, and scratch resistance of the thing,.....
Yep, but I'm not sure how much relationship there is between that and strength to weight ratio. I suspect not a whole lot.

but the irony of YOU posting that,....is not lost on me....:D
Titanium is kinda unique and has a different feel to it than any other metal, and I think you know me well enough by now to realize I like unusual (but practical) stuff. ;)

I've had my copper less than a week and it doesn't look like I'll get the nice pretty colored patina that Rossum seems to achieve. I'll have more of the "dirty penny" look... not surprising as that's how every copper mod I've owned ended up. No problem though, it'll fit nicely with my "antique brass" and "filthy 7075".

Not sure what's up with the weird cross hatch pattern of filth on the 7075.
