I must admit,...I did bust my kids butts, on a few rare occasions, when they were younger. Once they got a little older, and could be reasoned with,...we were able to sort things out with words, and the judicious removal of certain luxuries, temporarily.....

I think if folks can get there young children to behave through words and reason only, that would be preferable. Some just seem to need a swat on the backside, from time to time,...to remind them of how important it is to behave, and be respectful of other people, and their things...

Also,....I needed my .... busted on many, many occasions, growing up. Probably way more than I actually got...

In agreement Corey IMO my parents did a fantastic job - they used spanking as a last resort, but did use it a few times - they used a lot of different corrective measures, from the sounds of it much like you did great parenting.

Even though it worked out a bit better, I cannot like this. A good old fashioned .... whipping would cure that behavior. But we can't have kids being accountable for their actions or punished or anything these days. They call it child abuse.

^This I don't necessarily agree with. I don't think kids need to be "whipped" to encourage good behavior (maybe depending on the kid eh?). The problem as I see it is when people take the opposite approach which is essentially hands off. The overly "academic" approach, really - which in this particular case was absurd, because the parents did not and probably still do not see anything wrong with letting their kids have free reign - free reign of the house I am sure, even when the house is not theirs. And look I'm no parent, nor do I intend to ever be one to be perfectly honest. I do feel kinda bad sticking my nose into parenting methods - but to have no bounds, no accountability...their kids are growing up without respect, and they'll likely not earn any, either.

Never believed in a beating, but a good swift kick up the backside every now and then sure got my attention when I was a kid. That and sanctions that were followed through upon. It's all about respect.

Quick update.........

I have been informed that I WILL have the copper bodies and caps tomorrow.

I'll be dropping off the 7068 to be started on, as well.

If anyone wants brass, just let me know.

I walked in to the boy giving his sister a camel clutch with a knee in the middle of her spine and every ounce of his strength he's got.

He had welt marks for a week.

Lady from child welfare asked why the belt. I said to spare his life.

She never returned and the case was closed shortly thereafter.

In my home (since I was raised with Buster the belt/wooden spoons/crutches/willow branches/whatever was in reach) the way I speak lets my kids know they've crossed a line. If things have been pushed so far that I have to raise my voice my kids know the stuff is hitting the fan and they're in deep.

Everyone is different, but if not for fear of the belt I would most likely either be dead or in prison. I was a real problem child and have many regrets for the emotional pain I caused my parents.

I always had to cut my own. i didn't dare bring a weak twig because that just made the inevitable even worse.

I grew up on Long Island and every summer we drove down to Florida or out to Texas to visit grandparents. The last thing my dad would do is get his favorite switch and lay it across the dashboard. Riding across the country with 2 younger sisters in the back seat of a Buick made it very difficult to behave.

I remember several occasions pulled over on the side of I 95, all 3 of us, lined up on the car like we're getting frisked, getting the full wrath of the switch. Funny that I can hear now the sound of people honking, almost like they were saying "you go dad, don't take that crap from them". These days he would probably be arrested for that but like Mundy said, I'd be much worse off now had it not happened.

I got to meet a vaping brother from another mother today. Really enjoyed your visit good sir, we'll have to do it again some time.

Beautiful puppy Tami I would love to have a dog but our schedule at this point in our life just isn't conducive to the proper care of a dog. I'm sticking with my fish for now.
