Silver wire?

I used 24 gauge Kanthal. Same thing I did with my OliveR. Daddy taught me the "spare of the moment heli coil made from a piece of wire trick" when we used to work on engines when I was a young'un. I blame him and my Uncles for my love of tinkering and also my love for fast cars. One of my Uncles still builds winning race car engines.

Handy that both 6-32 and 8-32 happen to be 32 threads per inch, right? :)

But why a high-resistance wire like Kanthal, that tends to form an insulating oxide coating on it? OK, there's a lot of cross-sectional area in the current path, but still...

But,....it's in 'ere!!!

I'm waitin' on a couple tiny end mills that'll help me cut a cleaner slot in the heads of the silver contacts.....

There's some more testing to be done,....but I think these are gonna work great. :thumb:

Cause it was handy, the right size, and stiff enough to hold its shape. <~insert joke here~> As far as oxidation, it hasn't affected my OliveR and that was a long time ago.

Handy & the right size: CAT5 wire (home run, not patch cord) is typically 24ga pure copper. Whether it's stiff enough is another question.

Trying to visualize what you used a Kanthal helicoil for in a dibi-sumpin. o_O

Replaced the original button contact, the bottom contact that presses against the threaded rod, and the bottom battery contact with the silver contacts. IIRC the original Chicago screws were 8/32 and so was the contact that went against the threaded rod. Other might have been 10/24 or 32?

I'm thinkin I gotta send my two back for a retro fit

:D

I'm only puttin' 'em in the copper mods, at the moment. These little jokers are time consuming to make, and I think I'll have my hands full for a little while, just trying to keep up the pace, with the added time....

Once I have a little free time,...I'll look into the possibility of doing the
8-32 retrofit type o' thing. For the time being, we'll have to just look at this as a limited edition, copper/silver combo. You know,...the ultimate in conductivity,....silver and copper....what's better than that??? :?:

So, Bob,.....when you gonna wanna take delivery of one of these babies? :D

Limited time only.......... Operators are standing by....... May not be legal in all states...... :p
