I found this black foam at the pet store. Its used for reptile tank filters. Pretty much identical to the blue foam, holds a good amount of liquid, but its black instead of blue. Has anyone else tried this and is it safe?

IT'S ALL good..i guess....i use yellow foam called tom's..check out my sick atty mod...using it..!

If you're going to try it... do yourself a favor and research first. I know MANY people in the reptile and fish industry all over the country, and most of those black pre-filters are carbon based. I wouldn't personally use one. Some common manufacturers of the black pre-filters are ZooMed, Zilla, and a few others. Meanwhile, most of the reptile use branded pre-filters are in fact rebranded fish pre-filters which again contain carbon in most cases if the filter is black. ZooMed and Zilla both are the big players of corporate reptile brands however they may not list carbon based or not on their package. Either way, I'd soak the hell out of it at bare minimum prior to use if you're ok with risking a potential carbon based filter.

Frogin: Do you ever contribute? I've been lurking for months now and every post I see you make has NOTHING to do with ANYTHING and usually has no thought nor experience behind it man. I'm not attacking you, but all you're doing is advertising your mod, ever and there's places to do that, and places not to... your mod is in no way related to his question so why bother?
