After about 2 days of vaping on a carto in my J-tank, occasionally the carto (Boge LR) will become clogged and have a stiff, hard drag. I take the tank off and blow really hard on the drip tip side into toilet paper and this black stuff comes out on the paper, you can rub it and it smears on the paper. What the hell is this stuff?

Sounds like it's carbonization of the juice that builds up around the coil over time. Some juices may due it more easily/quickly than others. Not much you can do to prevent that unless you have voltage control in your PV. Even then, reducing the carbonization my not produce the flavor, vapor and throat hit you want. Just a bi-product of vaping.

Some things to check.

Make sure the seals in your tank are not breaking down. Some tanks have had "issues" with O-rings deteriorating rapidly in some juices. Check your O-rings and if they leave black on a paper towel it could be the culprit.

You never mentioned how the juice got from your tank into your Boge so I will assume that you are slotting them like Pbusardo. I use this method as well. Slotting can introduce small metal shaving and bits of the cutting blade into the carto filler. While not particularly hazardous it will eventually leave sediment in the carto and some the tank.

It could be that you are not refilling your juice soon enough in your tank. Cartos rely on juice delivered from the tank. Letting your juice drop down to the slots or carto punches is a bad practice. You see even though juice can be drawn from the bottom of the carto up to the heating coil, the heating coil has too much time to heat up before the juice reaches the coil. In essence what happens is the coil heats up to a glow and then is doused with your juice. Although the taste is not one of a purnt nature in full , you may start to notice that your juice is tasting different. It is because the first parts of your juice begin to burn directly prior to it vaporizing you juice. Burnt cartos are a loss toss them.

Wicking problems created by very thick VG juice such as bobas bounty or other 100%vg unthinned juice. VG juice does not wick very well in cartos. It will work indeed, but the draw back is that the juice doesnt saturate the filler and what happens is the same as letting your juice drop too low. The coil get red hot and then the juice quenches the sizzling coil. The result is that you are burning your juice a little each time it happens. This is often hard to detect especially if you tend to vape the same flavor all day or even better for multiple days.

Sometimes the black stuff can be burnt filler. if you have wicking issues and then chain vape is a good example. It sound rediculous but we all do it with out realizing it. We take a draw and the vapor is much less than we expect so we know something is wrong but instead of stopping to address it right that moment, we hope the next will be better until we are just heating the whole device up and still not getting a satisfying pull. Meanwhile we are chain vaping and cooking cartos. The heated up carto has a small thing plastic tube inside with which to draw air through. Heat it up too much and it collapses like a big wheel under rozie o'donell.

Damon could be correct as well. an over abundance of juice on a carto coil can leave lots of residue behind as the coil is just struggling to boil off the juice. This should be fairly noticeable as the carto will tend to gurgle a ton when drawn on.

Great info, thanks! My juice is Liberty Flight's Vanilla 50vg/50pg so it's not a citrus or thick juice. I will check my J-Tank tomorrow because I haven't cleaned it since I bought it two months ago. I fill my cartos using the condom method which fills them great but it does add to the problem of juice build up, and I do tend to let my juice run low in the tank, I'll definitely re-fill more often. Probably a combination of those two things and the juice builds up into gunk.

Hi , DARTH Vapers!

Ive been testing and researching EGO- Clearomisers - V2, CE4 , V3 , And a new rebuildable unit - - The black build up is a result of Tobacco leaf based Nicotine extract - In each case the clearomisers after being filled with tobacco leaf extract nicotine, and in about 2-3 days of use they all had bad smokey harsh taste and hard draw.
The impurities found in tobacco leaf extract - include A dangerous carcinogenic properties.
ALL LEAF BASED NICOTENE SHOULD NOT BE USED IN V2 V3 CE4 , CLEAROMISERS It burns hot and leaves a sticky carbon deposit on the Coil - regardless of being stainless or not.

This sticky black carbon deposit stops the coil from working properly and i guarantee if you use (cheap) or not pure food grade PV/VG or nicotine your clearomiser will fail and have to be replaced.

I use 99.99 pure liquids in all my equipment when im not doing research. I dont have to many problems , - Eventually the viscous propertys of any PG/VG mix used very frequently in all clearomisers will clog the wicks . I clean my clearomisers with 100% isopropyl alcohol . I remove all liquid using a small straw pushed between the coil riser and the ceramic case, then block the bottom end of the clearomiser with my finger and fill the entire clearomiser up to the top - i shake for about 2mins then repeat the process- i then sit them on the top metal frame of my gas heater to ensure all taste from the isopropal is gone - this process takes about 10 mins!!

You should clean your clearomisers weekly if you want good life expectancy - but naturally if your vaping all day all night everyday with one clearomiser the likely hood of a failure will increase - I change my clearomisers around daily - to ensure
long life-

THanks for reading - hope i can shed some light of this dark sticky subject
