Sorry if there was a confussion, but no, I do not own a trifecta.

However, I do know quite a bit about it.

It's a battery, that can change from auto, to manual, to passthrough. Something Leafords been wanting to perfect ever since he worked with V4L (they didn't approve). Though, it's similar to the original bloog bats; the switch and airflow sensor aren't as quick as the newer max fusion bats. This is an upgrade we're waiting on, it is in the works. I also believe the trifecta is regulated at 5 volts, and the new ones will be at 3.6, just like the bats.

As for your question, in theory, you're correct. I've never heard of one dying yet. But even if that were to happen, it would still function as a usb passthrough. Now you've made me curious.. I think I'm gonna have to go ask Leaford.

Sorry, I put out a bit of mis-informaiton...

The trifecta is actually at 3.6 volts, but not regulated. The normal pass through is the one at 5 volts, and the new one at 3.6 should be available shortly.

Also, I've been told that once the battery goes, you will not be able to use as a pass through either.

Still seems cool. But personally, I never understood why people would want to suck on a cord coming out of their computer. I just have enough batts in rotation/always charging, that I don't run into a problem.

But different strokes for different folks and all that. :D

I just got my passthrough and being tethered to the computer does take some getting used to. I got it because I'm at my desk all day, and this way I'm not charging my batteries as often, lengthening their lifespan. Basically to save money on batteries. Also for use on long car trips.
