Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm hoping regulated mods won't join this trend even though I've read some rare cases of them doing it too.

It's not the mod.
It's 100% user error.
Someone who did not understand their gear, used the wrong atty on a "hybrid-look" mod and shorted the battery.

Inexperienced users who dont understand their gear, and don't heed warnings will always have problems.

I understand. It's just I'm waiting for the time when they have mods that are foolproof so this bad rep stops due to user error.

They have them.
They are called regulated mods.

If you mean foolproof mechanical mods, that won't happen, as they are by design, not for fools.

That's what I'm saying, as in regulated mods which are foolproof. As I mentioned they are still rare cases of regulated mods 'popping'.
I know mech mods will never be foolproof, which got me thinking now aren't mech mods redundant now? Or am I missing something?

A regulated mod may go into a meltdown but never heard of one actually blowing up.
usually the charge port thingy melts down or it fires on it's own if any problems in a regulated mod.

Nothing in life is foolproof. Not even an anvil.

Anything electronic can (and eventually WILL) fail.

The trick is to educate yourself enough so that you understand the risks and are knowledgeable enough to act accordingly.
Know your own limits, and don't exceed them without understanding the risks.

Mowing your lawn is more dangerous than vaping.

Mechanical mods are very safe if you understand how to use them correctly.
I have about 80 mechanicals, and none have ever "failed".

We are all adults here and are responsible for our own safety and actions.

I know that, I just hope the people who don't start learning before getting into this. For the community's sake.

as someone new to vaping ..planning on mech mods soon; this article and the posts here tells me to take a step back & take it easy.

Better do more research first and look more into the ohms law I've been seeing so much here

thanks for sharing guys.
I'm glad this helps to make you realise what you're getting into. Make ohms law and the rest of the knowledge you need a lifestyle before getting into it. All the best and happy vaping. :)

We have cars being recalled for killer airbags , planes catching on fire while taxiing and yet what do we want to ban?

Right on.

A car would never receive a recall for some idiot shorting the battery, or operating it without knowing what they are doing.
You can drive a car at 16.
Laptop batteries have over a decade of documented battery explosions and meltdowns, yet schools ISSUE them to minor students.
Where's the outrage?

Perspective. It matters.
