I cant believe how sad I am over this!

So I dropped my cell phone in bath tub this morning while give my girls a bath. I dont know anyones numbers and my husband is in KY threw the weekend. ......didnt know how much I used it till now

I took the bat out and hand dried it. Now it is in my refrigerator because I fig it has a dehumidifier.

Has any1 had luck with saving their phone after dropping it in water?

if it's a smart phone with a touch screen the outlook is grimm. If it's a cheaper non data flip phone you might have a chance.

My kids have done it to theirs and I have put it in a container with rice and it has worked with theirs most of the time. Worth a try anyway, nothing to lose.

I had an LG flip phone that was about 4 years old when it died. It had previously vibrated off the coffee table into a bucket that I had used the night before to soak my bad ankle in. I actually pulled it out of the bucket and answered it because it was still ringing at the bottom of a half full bucket of water. I of course ended up having to replace the battery and it lasted a year after the water incident. That poor phone was used and abused for 4 years. Got a replacement (same model) and it was a piece of crap. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes....not so much.

Sorry to hear about your phone...I hope it still works. Also your carrier may still be able to pull the data off of it....but that's hit or miss too.

Mine has a little data card thingy that comes out and you can put it into another phone.It has all your #'s and stuff on it

I would try the rice,Ive heard that before and it worked for them.

Try the rice method. If you have some of that cat litter that looks like white pearls (pretty expensive stuff) that would work much better!

yeah rice works well....so do those little silica desicant packages...sometimes you can get that stuff at better shoe places...

and while the rice is a total +1 because most people dont have dessicant just laying around that stuff is made to draw all moisture into it..so I'd try getting some and finish the job with it..

Good idea and lucky for me I went shoe shopping for kids last weekend . Im gonna go gather those little packages up now...ps I think I will also save them for now on for future mishaps.

A professional's word on liquid damaged cell phones.

I deal with about 30-60 liquid damaged cells a day...
So here is my list after 5 years of day in day out boohoo stories here is my list.

1. If it does happen get that battery out ASAP and leave it out.. patience is going to reward you greatly at this stage.
Most of the corrosion and damage is at this stage. If it has not gone into thermal nuclear melt down you might be safe.
I have seen batteries go critical and just melt phones because of an arc inside the phone due to corrosion.
Acid+metal+current = a world of friggin hurt if it blows.

2. uncooked rice or minute rice is going to be your friend, ziplock or canning jar is going to help out.

3.time 24-48 hours MIN! no joke time is a virtue here.

4. If you have insurance on it now is the time to file a claim. Yes it costs but not as much to get a replace full cost phone.

NO it is no manufacture warranty, do no bash curse or berate the person trying to assist you in repairing your mistake. Chances are unless it is wickedly to far gone we can recover something maybe your contacts... But if you turn into the crying or cursing windbag then there is nothing we can do for you.


Besides do you really want to pee in someone's ice cream who is just doing a job?
Besides that person you are giving hell to has all your personal information, equipment listing and the know how to make you hate life for a very long time..

And in closing thank your reps and techs who are assisting you get back in the flow of things

never would have thought of rice, all my phones that have been lost have been due to water. first one was in the toilet. i hesitated grabbing it out of the toilet especially since it was at my job. That extra time prob killed it. Next one was in another toilet. Last one was in the bathroom i was shaving and i saw it happen in slow motion, a single drop of water from my chin arched and hit the phone sunk into the speaker port it blinked like 3 times and said goodbye. I loved that phone. These days im extra paranoid when bringing a phone near water.

The rice trick doesn't work so well with laptops though hehe! Why? You will keep finding many rice pieces falling out as time goes by and I know this first hand!! Poor almost new 17 inch laptop, why would anyone want to drown it!

do not bury it the absorbing nature of the rice will draw the moisture out.

Just make sure the battery is out.

My father dropped his phone in the toilet once. Yeah. Gross. He called Verizon and asked how screwed he was. The rep actually said to remove the battery NOW, and wrap the unit in aluminum foil. And to put it in the oven at 150 degrees for an hour.

I would have never believed him but the stupid phone actually worked again.

Those silica packets worked wonders when I accidentally washed my iphone 3GS in the washing machine at Christmas.

Took it out after the 45 minute cycle, made sure it was off and placed it in a zip lock bag with as many of those little silica packets I could find for a full week.

It still works just fine
