I've been doing this for a while with cotton batten. Try it with a bigger coil than you normally use, it seems to work better. Here's a post I did on this for reference....http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...erials-safe-vs-dangerous-470.html#post9585821. I've gone with a little bigger coil since those pics were taken.

If you are a cotton/hemp/wool/whatever fan you really need to try this. It vapes great. It's super easy to replace the wick material. Awesome for fiber noobs because you don't have to worry about the coil being too tight around the wick, not tight enough, etc. When I first started doing this I would stuff both legs down into the wick hole. Just folding it over and tucking it underneath the coil is all you need to do. Tasting nasty? Pull the short side of the wick up, do a burn to get the gunk off the coil, cut off yucky part of coil, pull wick from the tank, cover and tuck. I can go from bad tasting to new in about 30 seconds if that. I also have one I setup with Aunt Lyndia's yarn. It works great but is way more trouble than the cotton batten. Gauze/cheesecloth should work really well.

It also helps if you extend the wrap toward the air hole so that all air coming in goes directly through the coil.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Yeah, I've got that open end of the wick french kissing the air hole.

I just got 30ft of 3mm Ekowool, and this was an idea that I was toying with as well - build a coil around 1mm Ekowool, then sheath in 3mm Ekowool. I might use a sharp razor to slice the 3mm open length-wise, and put the coil/1mm inside, as if the 3mm was a hot dog bun, thus exposing the top coil so the vapor can escape more easily. i suspect this might mitigate the tight draw of having the coil completely ensconced in the 3mm.
