"So why does the Food and Drug Administration want to ban them? That’s an interesting question, one the FDA can’t answer right now because its lawyers are in court as we speak, trying to enforce its authority over the devices. Heaven knows there are plenty of nicotine products out there - patches, gums, and so on - so how the FDA lawyers concluded that “distribution of E-Cigarettes in commerce in the U.S. is prohibited’’ is beyond me."

Good article indeed Big Jim. He asks a question that really does not help our cause though here---The Patches', gums, etc he is talks about all went though the FDA application and approval process and the e-cig did not. So why it is "beyond him" is beyond me. The only way out of this is to call the e-cig a tobbaco product ----and that is hard to do as we saw in with Nico-water.

Well, I think Alex needs to be brought up to speed. One thing I do know is, this guy is a vaporer. Maybe one of us should email him the link to the e-cig forum. Would be nice to have an actual journalist in our midst. Maybe get some actual truth out there for a change instead of speculation, even if it's only in New England. (The Boston Globe is a very big paper here in New England)

EDIT: Email sent to him. :p

I think the comments were more interesting than the article. There is quite a definitive schism there.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people feel it necessary to deride personal choices that are different from their own. I am, however, glad to see more recognition of PVs in the mainstream media (MsM).

I too found the comments more interesting. Of course being on ECF I can get OTHER users opinions of e cigs but to get a non smokers opinion of e cigs was eye opening to say the least.

I feel like this author of the article could and should have done a bit more research before writing the article.

And to everyone who posted something negative, or comparing nicotine to ......., or saying oh well just quit anyways..well I cant post what I want to say.

How come people feel so strongly about nicotine, but not caffeine? Red Bulls, Vaults, caffeine gum and candy? Isn't caffeine gum just as available to children as a mountain dew, but yet people aren't screaming for caffeine to be pulled from the shelves. Why is caffeine more acceptable?

I do admit that I am a nic addict! I am also a caffeine addict, but how come these people are scoffing at my e cig but not my cup of coffee??

Ignorant..just plain ignorant is what I have to say to most of the comments on this article....

This is the drawback of living in a society that's largely narcissistic. Fear not! The fat ones that scoff at our ecigs will cry when their calories get counted for them. Of course, the challenge then becomes to rise above the pettiness and support the rights of everyone.
