I will try to make a long story short. Started vaping a little less than 2 mos ago. Co-worker had me to buy bottle of VG from Walmart to add more vapor. I added a couple drops per ml of store bought e-liquid. It did add vapor and didn't change the taste.
Last week, decided to place order for first DIY project. Didn't order VG since I already had some. Made a few small batches of tobacco flavor trying to figure out flavor percentages. Tried 1 batch with single flavor of TFA type "M" at 4%. Mixed up another using TFA type "M" at 3% combined with RY4 at 2%. Wasn't sure of %'s and came up with these numbers from reviews. I added correct amount of 60mg/ml unflavored nic to mixes per calculator to get 12% nic. I was running about 80-20 PG-VG%. Didn't allow it to steep at that time because I wanted a quick taste. It seemed to be weak on tob taste but seemed to have a citrusy taste and sometimes a hint of mint at the end. Let it sit overnight and still seemed about the same.
I started reading more on the forum and saw where someone said something about the Walmart VG tasting bad. I got a raw drop of it on the tip of my finger and would have to say, it was very sweet, had a citrusy taste to it, and within a couple seconds, left what felt like an oily film/taste on my tongue. Decided to play it fair, so I dripped a drop of raw PG onto the tip of my finger and tasted it. Honestly, it tasted about the same as the Wallyworld VG except that the PG seemed to have had about 4x's the citrusy twang to it...enough to get the "I just bit into a lemon" face. This unflavored PG was from an order I just placed last week from a well known supplier.
I decided to make a 25 ml batch with just PG to see about a different taste. I did the larger batch so it would have time to steep and we could have a batch by this weekend, as the store bought is running low. Did it to the same percentages and everything. Nonetheless, I decided to let it sit and steep. That was on Sunday. Monday night, I shook it and dripped a drop on my finger and still very citrusy with no tobacco taste. Tuesday night, it seemed to start mellowing out, dropped some of the citrus effect, and started developing somewhat of an "e-liquid" tobacco taste. I got to reading the thread about adding a couple drops per 2 ml to help bring it out even more so I added 9 drops to my 25ml batch.
This morning, I got a little anxious, as the vinegar thread said it would speed up steeping also. I decided to put about 1ml of this batch into my clearmizer and try it on the way to work. I tried it for a little while and couldn't take it. The citrus seemed at least twice as strong as a Mountain Dew. I ended up pouring it out and going back to my store liquid.
I am just wondering if I am not being patient enough to allow this to steep for a few more days or if I have an issue with my unflavored PG. Either way, the citrusy taste has to go. It is just too strong. I don't really want to keep making up test batches and wait a week to know if I need to increase the flavor on the next batch, change to a different PG, or exactly what to do.
I always thought raw PG or VG were only supposed to be sweet and nothing about being citrusy.
Thanks
