Hi Folks,

I'm REAL new to the DIY liquid scene and trying to understand some of this.

Namely VG and PG.

The spreadsheets on the forum give one the option to use VG and / or PG and seem to indicate one should use both?

I mixed up a batch using equal (more or less) parts of VG and PG and the result has a underlying taste of PG.

Duplicated the experiment just using VG (and 2mL this time rather than 5) and the taste is MUCH better without the underlying taste.

I am wondering why both are options, is it a personal preference thing or do both have some special significance?

The PG seems to give a, best I can describe it, a metalic taste - nothing really bad but it is noticable. It isn't there with just VG and I get a lot more vape too, it seems.

Any thoughts appreciated.

First recipe was 36mg TW unflavored, Lorann's Orange creme, PG and VG.

Second same except no PG.

I have found if I add PG to a mix then I get hardly any flavor at all. I mixed some tonight 40%VG,40%e-liquid,20% flavor. It came out really good! Awesome flavor and vapor. I'm gonna get rid of the bottle of PG and go with straight VG from now on.

I agree with Truckdrivingmouse, I stick purely to the VG. It tastes good and Vapes AWESOME.

Thanks Folks!

After mixing that second batch up last night and hitting it again this morning, I think you are right. The orange cream is heavenly and on exhale it is hard to see the monitor :).

Stuff is a lot goopier but flavor and vape are MUCH better than the combo with PG.

Wonder how good VG would be for the snus tobacco flavor? The PG seems to make it harsher than I care for. Perhaps I'll toss a couple snus packets in some VG and see what happens.

The adventure continues :)!

Sorry to derail the thread a little here, but I can't start a new topic yet.

I bought a bottle of glycerin from the local rite-aid, but I'm not sure if it's the same stuff everyone here is talking about. I found it in the skin care section, and the label says "USP Glycerin 99.5% Anhydrous". Is this okay to use, or will I be smoking hand lotion?

Thanks!

Sorry if this is a repetative question. I have been reading all differnt posts and have a simple question.

I have purchased vegetable glycerin and then 2 other bottles. 1 by humco that is glycerin and 1 by wiltons that is glycerin.

The ones that just say glycerin, are those pg or vg?

I am sorry for the repetative question, just need an answer. Thanks.

They may be neither. PG is propylene Glycol, a widely used food additive. VG is VEGETABLE based glycerine. Not all glycerine is vegetable based. Actually, it could be refined from petroleum, so be sure that you order/get vegetable glycerine to play it safe. A simple google or ask.com search will give you many suppliers of pure VG.
(Of interest to note, have you seen these people who are running their diesel vehicles on cooking oil? ie, vegetable oil?)

Anyone notice a difference between the two fouling attys???????

THANKS

I haven't as I have nothing to benchmark results too but i believe(from reading the forums) that the relationship between more VG is directly proportional to more atomizer problems.

Thanks, that's not good! In two months have already had I think 4 that went cold. But that's on PG. haven't yet tried VG, it's on the way. Got a little cough, sore throat, thought I'd better try VG just to see....

I am new to vaping and bought stuff to break down 36MG e-liquid but I have a problem with the PG I have. I got the Pg on ebay it is by cigar innovations and it is in a red bottle 8 oz it is 100% pure USP PG >>>BUT it says mix 50/50 with water so for making e-liquid do I mix it with water or use it pure? I tried some pure and it does not give good mist at all but did not add water to it as I wanted to know if anyone here has had expierince with needing to mix the PG with water before use? THanks.

PG is used 50/50 with water for stabalising humidity and stopping mould growth in a cigar humidor (for keeping cigars fresh). Judging by where you bought it from it is being sold for this purpose hence the instruction to mix 50/5o with water.

I just found this on the net. Glycerin most commonly is derived from animal byproducts, however. Unless it specifically says it's vegetable derived, there's more of a chance it's animal based than veg.

First time I have heard of animal based.

I also purchased from CVS and am not sure if it is VG; could find nothing on the net. Says external use only.
