The other day I noticed that I had burnt like spots on the top of my Sony vtc5s that had been in my Reos. I did some investigating and noticed that BOTH of my Reos are sparking at the battery top/firing pin connection when the firing pin first touches the battery and when it is released from the battery. They are both only a little over a month old and have the upgraded contacts. Is this normal? What can I do to correct this? I may have to send one of them back to Rob as I noticed it is leaking juice from under the 510 connection, I took it apart and tried to fix it, it is leaking much less, but still leaking a tad nonetheless. But my other reo is not leaking at all and that is also sparking when fired. Any help will be appreciated

I'm guessing you're running some fairly low ohm coils. The arc'ing (sparking) sometimes happens when ohms are low and flat top bats like the VTC's are used. It's not that uncommon.

To prevent this, try putting some deoxit gold (or noalox) on the firing pin and on the positive pole of the bat. Some folks even put it under the spring to be extra sure. Be sure to thoroughly clean the battery post and firing pin before applying it.

fyi - all mechanical mods do the same - just that some are enclosed in a tube so you never see it.

i use Deoxit gold on all contacts and Noalox on all threads. Noalox works on firing pins buts it's messy and it's ruined after 2 days. It cakes up and needs to be re-applied.

I run 0.2Ω on everything, so my mods get a real thrashing every week.

T, I just received my Deoxit Gold in the mail today. How often do you apply it?
I think vaping style has allot to do with how much you would use and how often . If your in the one ohm range like me its would be a couple months I would think before you would need to reapply .

I have never had the need to use deoxit myself noalox has worked great for me I can go months without any maintenance

Thanks for the reply. What do you mean by "maintenence", Robert? Do you go months without reapplying Noalox or months without a more vigorous cleaning of the firing pin? I feel guilty if I go a week without dabbing on some Noalox.
By the way, I also vape in the one ohm range--accidentally drop down to .9 or go up to 1.1 once in a while but one ohm is my goal when coil-building.

I apply a thin film on both ends of my battery every battery change for trouble free operation. I apply it to the spring pin contact point after I clean it but I'm finding I don't have to clean it much with regular application to the batteries.

I've used Deoxit Gold for years in electronics manufacturing. It's good stuff and works quite well for REOs. I like it better because it's not as messy and works just as well if not better than Noalox.

In other scenarios at resistances as low as .2ohms I'm finding just the thin film to the battery terminals to be quite effective for trouble free operation.

I'm confident you will enjoy the performance benefits. :)

I haven't had to actually clean my contact . About every two months I apply a little noalox to the positive contact . I haven't used deoxit for the money I would have to assume its just as good if not better . Some of the guys here I respect talk it up let us no what you think once you have used it for awhile
