Yesterday my reo started acting weird by firing fine sometimes, and not firing at all other times. I was going to give it a cleaning when
I noticed this...

Is there a way to fix that strip that goes across the firing pin, or should I just send it in for Rob to look at it?

I was going to clean it, then I noticed that little strip that the firing pin pushes down looks broken or ripped. I didn't remember seeing it look like that before.
Some terminology helps get everyone on track. here's what I think you mean
The firing pin is the strip. the "button" pushes the firing pin (strip) down to make contact with the battery.
If I understand you correctly, and the firing pin is indeed ripped you can buy a repair kit that will include a new firing pin as Lisa stated:)
You can unscrew the Derlin cover and have a better look at the firing pin. There is nothing mysterious or loose underneath, so have a look and post another pic of the "rip"

Give a good cleaning, file and noalox.

Here is what the pieces look like when not in the Reo

In this shot you can see how the tip of the firing pin is bent and then comes to a point. You might have flattened the bend by applying too much pressure when trying to get it fire due to oxidation.

LVnative you might want to try putting a dab of Noalox on the button of the battery. This will use more Noalox but if gives you an oxygen free point of contact between the battery and firing pin. In an oxygen free atmosphere the will be no oxidation and then no reason to have to file the pin. Before I replaced my firing pin for a DZ/Dibby firing pin I had done this for 2 1/2 months when I removed the old pin it was clean as new.
