yes, that's what I'm using, a big screen with a damaged plug... if the plug wasn't damaged then the screen can be used just for adjustment and then removed again, the module functions fine without the screen and retains it's programed settings indefinitely.

i'm not a hunt around and adjust up and down kinda guy, I set it and that's it for the most part so I'm not missing the screen all that much tbh. on my brass mod when it was dna20 I never even bothered to make up down button actuators just because didn't even need them, left it pinned at 20 :)

I totally get that, thought I was the only one, my zebra dna just has a couple holes drilled in the bottom that I can stick a blunt in to adjust if I ever felt it necessary (rarely do).

I picked up a DNA40 BS off the coop that after, had know idea what to do with (the screen is kinda overwhelmingly goofy big)...now that I know it'll work without the screen...I've been thinking something future meets old (Joss Whedon Serenity style)...cheers Turbo :)

I'd like to make this homemade lathe you speak of. Not sure where you'd get a chuck to clamp to the table. Also not sure about that steel plate you speak of. Don't think I'd have anything like that on hand

You just need a threaded chuck and the corresponding bolt...like this: Grizzly.com® --

What you need is exactly what Quigs linked for you but bare in mind this isn't really a lathe but more so an accurate way to drill small parts dead center.

yea, I have little desire right now to turn this into a make shift lathe. I got it so I wouldn't have to bug my grandfather in-law as much. apparently I need a drill press table, some vices besides the stupid c clamp I bought at home depot yesterday

and now a chuck.

I tried drilling out my vertex RDA yesterday which I haven't touched in ages. kind of blew out the side of the screw, but it still threads. might just say F it and continue on. I think it will still work, but who knows.

I'm trying to up my experience so I can drill out this white mini freak show to match my bottom feeder. not practicing on that guy though

Here's my current device. I don't think the freak show mini will be a better vape but I think it will match perfectly

Managed to get this finished at last (maybe a final polish),because there is no 510 connector the pin in the atty has been swapped for a longer one (thats whats given me the trouble) but all the existing Reo firing mechanism is retained. It squonks really easy with no leaks.

Great job John, I simply love that chopped Reo look. Rob should get rid of that turret
Thanks Steve.
I agree on the turret, the only reason I can see for it is maybe to accommodate the 510 connector that he started out with,I haven't tried but I think it's possible to take say an FD's 510 and shorten it and still use Rob's firing leaf etc,but trying to get stuff here from FD is a PITA,I'm still waiting for 150 bucks worth that I ordered in January. When I get more experience with my machines I'll make them myself.

Been lurking lately.... watching all the DNA40 banter. I still have the dna 40 chip I bought from Evolv... and have acquired another because the screen is removed. Can I buy a replacement display? Is not a BS, just a regular old dna40. The display was forcibly removed from the ribbon cable by a vape shop employee who was trying to replace a dna30 with a dna40. His response? "sorry Dude".

Soooo, my desire to try a DNA40 BF mod and my apparent need for instant gratification took hold of my wallet and I broke down and bought a VaporFlask Squonk. Its really quite nice!

Its making me consider buying the Fasttech flask housing and BF it myself. I still want to make my own mod though.

Let me know if I can replace the display on the DNA40 board please

Thanks!
Geo

It is my understanding that Evolv will replace the screen for the nominal fee of $10. Send them an email to make sure. That is a great price for soldering on a new small screen. I haven't done it myself but I am pretty sure that I have read on this forum of others having it done for $10.
Good luck, and stay away from that vape shop.

yup.. if this happened to me, I probably would have lost it and the guy would have a squonk hole embossed on his forehead. This did actually happen to a buddy of mine... who gave me the board and said, if you can make it work - put it into something.

The painful part about it... The guy also gutted a Man Cave Mod DNA30! My buddy got the shell back, wires coming out everywhere...sloppy sloppy sloppy.
I believe I will send the DNA40 back to have a new display put on it. After which I will either design a squonker and drop it in there and give it back to my buddy... or if I could just get that MCM from him I could fix it for him.

Thanks for the help with the board!

HOLY SMOKES! I just found a Wilton 11688 vise normally priced above $500 for $2.10 plus ~$20 shipping at toolorbit.com The site gets very mixed reviews from resellerratings.com and overall decent reviews from sitejabber.com (sitejabber reviews seem to have several shills). It probably IS too good to be true, but I'm taking a chance anyway.

Yep. Too good to be true. I called just before 30 days to check on the order and the rep said that it had been discontinued. He would see if he could get an equivalent from Jet for no extra charge. Apparently not, though. At least they refunded my payment without my having to contact PayPal. The original listing now shows it as "currently not available", yet they still list it at $2.10 on their sister/parent company's page at toolmarts.com

Thanks Quigs... not too much backlash in it really. After researching a bunch of cross slide vises and finding all f them to be sub par, I stumbled onto this x-y table from Grizzly and paired it with an upgraded 4 inch vise. A little more $ than a cross slide vice but much more movement (5.5" x 12") and much more accurate.

Didn't even have to tear it down and lap the ways or anything... Pretty happy with it so far

Thanks,
Geo

Got links? I am in the same boat you were in when shopping for a setup for your Shopsmith. I don't want to by something that requires a machine shop to make it usable. I'll start digging again, but wouldn't mind a hint from a fellow SS owner.

Hi Folks, been meaning to upload some pics of the work I have been doing on my new toy, I have a long term loan of a mini lathe thanks to Floorzone's gentlemanly kindness.
so I have been drilling and otherwise modding most of my remaining standard attys and as you will see some are even from genesis atty origins.
Some you will have to guess, all the individual attys pictured (except the first one which is a Chinese Igo-L clone )in the strip are hybrids or highly modified/machined. .
Some of the attys I have bottom feed converted below ( yes the Zenith did say it was BF,

The custom jobs.

Just to clarify, extra parts are included to show origin of some customized parts encase you were wondering :)
