I have an EA mod, which had been sitting idle for quite some time, because I had disassembled the side button switch one day, and broke the little E clip that holds everything together. Terrible design, especially for a high end mod. Apparently, the manufacturer of the EA, Electric Angel, saw the error in their ways, because eventually they offered a bottom button conversion kit for their old style EA. Long story short, I got one, and I must say that it is one of the nicest bottom buttons in my collection, which includes things like the Nemesis, Paps, Stingray, Ihybrid. The switch is flush with the lock ring, which locks and unlocks with just a slight detented twist, right or left.

I think I recall a big negative with the EA bottom button as well; it is not user serviceable. You can't take it apart, so... if the spring or whatever issue arises it's done for.

There is nothing inherently wrong with bottom firing mods, if you don't like them that's just personal preference and I don't see the point in starting a thread to bash them. Bad designs are bad designs regardless of whether the button is on the side or the bottom. I'm not sure how the lack of an insulator on a cheap clone says anything about bottom firing mods in general.

Your problem with locking rings is also just a personal preference issue, and isn't really even related to the bottom vs side button debate. Many side button devices also feature locking rings, and just because the button is on the side doesn't mean it can't be depressed by keys or something else in your pocket. Locking rings improve safety, not the other way around as you imply

I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, I just don't really see the point in this thread. New people doing research might come across this thread and think there is something wrong with bottom buttons simply because some guy prefers his Poldiac to a cheap chinese caravela clone. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but not entitled to passing it off as fact.

Fyi... Im a newer mech person and just wanted to say that having just one bottom button that i cant stand because i keep standing it upright and it fires, and the button is hard to press with a pinky, im looking for a side button mech to try and dont know where to start... So because of this post i clicked it and now see the poldiac and natural may be good choices for me to look into since i feel similar to the OP

I Understand u are looking out for trolly behavior... I too can be irrated at them.. I think in this case its an honest opinion and OP is just sharing his vape experience and it is actually helpful information for another person who isnt a fan of the bottom button as well we are in fact talking about a feature here.. Much like saying top coil clearos suck bcc is where its at.

I think I'm going to design a mod with a floating 510 pin (I really like that feature), the same basic switch design as the K100 and with looks more in the direction of the Nemesis and call it the RD1 (Ryedan Dependable 1), LOL.
If you can make it look as pretty as a Caravela, count me in for a few :)

That's true. The EA button isn't serviceable, although I haven't really tried. I'm sort of a 'somebody put it together; so there must be a way to take it apart' type guy. Meanwhile though, it is a nice bottom switch; and is better than the old side button, which wasn't very serviceable either, because of that tiny damn retainer clip.

bad switches are bad whether it be bottom button or side button. For a bottom fire button to be good it needs just a couple of things. To never fire under its own wait and a locking ring that doesn't stick. These are two must haves. To be great it should have a short throw, should fire from anywhere it is pushed, little to no wobble in the upright position. A locking ring that is fast to set and unlock.

There are devices that have these qualities.

almost anyone would like a bottom firing mod with a great switch.

My Gus Lord is a bottom firer and I have no issues with it what so ever. It is exactly one turn from locked to unlocked. It can be fired with my pinky... no problem and, it can stand in 18650 with a KFL+ on it and not fire. I've had a side fire mod (EA Mod) and I like that as well. At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference. I would suggest not judging a mod or a switch based on a clone.
