Bought my uncle an Ecig...

I just bought a manual Joye 510 starter kit for my uncle who has been smoking analogs for over 25 years. He smokes menthols so I bought him a few prefilled menthols cartridges and and some empty cartridges and a menthol liquid sample pack. How do I get him to use it and convince him that it'll work? What should I warn him will be different than analogs? I am worried he'll try it once and then put it back down and forget about it... any ideas on how I can get him to stick to it and how long will it take him to realize ecigs are the better choice? I know a lot of questions but I really want him to quit!!!!!

Whatever you do, DON'T tell him it's a quit-smoking device. It's not. It's like switching to a new brand (a brand that won't kill ya).

What mg nicotine did you get him? (please say 24mg?)

Tell him to:
• blow out the atomizer - screw onto battery,
• drip 3 drops of liquid into the atomizer where you see the mesh hump sticking up,
• pop on the pre-filled cart, press button and half a second later take a long slow easy drag... DON'T take a quick hard puff like with a smoke.

You can tell him that most of us smoked for more than 25 years (that's a fact) and were able to switch to e-cigs immediately.

The biggest thing is to draw slowly. Tell him how much you would love to see him live to be a 100. It doesn't take very long to get used to it. Make him a bet if you have something to bet him that he can vape for a day without a cig.

You can't make someone switch. BTW carts get used up very quickly.

I think get some cartomizers too. If he does try it with the carts, it would need refilling pretty fast. With cartomizers it's easier (and more pleasant IMO) and one pack would be enough to give the ecig a good try. With some eliquid they can be refilled as long as he doesn't run them dry and singe the stuffing.

Try a pack of these prefilled ones which are probably the SLB style with the inner seal and the fluffy stuffing, and get some liquid for refilling

Did you get a manual battery 510 so it is sealed on the end? The autos can be killed by juice leaks.

Let him know that the scratch in the back of his throat will clear up, the mucus that is built up in the last 25 years will go away, he wont wake up in the morning and start coughing. Tell him to try it for a week, if he doesnt like let him go back to analog, when he goes back to analog, he himself wont like the taste of analog.

Let him know that vaping is the start of a new chapter to a healthier life.

I agree with Rosa. Just don't say anything about quitting smoking It should only be presented as a healthier alternative to cigarettes.

Also, make sure you get a variety of different pg/vg levels and flavors for him to try. As an old menthol smoker, I never did find one that tasted like my old cigs. It can be some of the fruity or stronger tobacco flavors that he ends up preferring. And, as dormouse suggested, cartomizers might be a lot simpler for someone just starting out. Especially if they are being introduced to vaping without being able to research it for themselves.

Also, remind him that most of us did not find exactly what we liked right off the bat. He shouldn't just take one draw and give up on it. Good luck.

The starter kit and liquid are in the mail and I should receive them in the next few days. Thank you all for the advice. I will go with telling him to think of it as a new much much less harmful brand of cigarettes, I could understand why he may be more open to that. I bought him some 18mg prefilled carts and some 25mg flavored liquid to refill.

Can he just refill a cartridge he finished vaping even if the cartridge contained a different flavor and mg? Also what is a cartomizer? How does it work? And can I get one for the Joye510 manual or do I have to buy a whole new ecig?

If you add juice to a cartridge that already has juic,e they will mic together somewhat but yes you can do it. I recommend using a compatible flavor. For 510 carts I recommend the precut blue foam stuffing at strictlyejuice.com - when the white cart stuffing gets old and cranky, pull it, rinse and dry the cart and fill with the blue foam. The blue foam holds it shape well and has even consistency. For a full fill you can pull it out, fill cart /12 way with juice, insert the blue foam tapered end, push the foam into the juice to get it wet, then reposition it at the top edge of the juice cup and top off with 1-3 drops - whatever it needs to look just damp on top. After that it can just be topped off with juice as needed until that doesn't work well (usually means it's all dry), then do another full fill.

cartomizer is a disposable atomizer and cart in one piece. It screws onto the battery. I recommend the Boge soft-cap standard resistance ones (you cannot use the LR ones on a slim 510). You need to fill it totally to start and, clen up the thread, blow out the air channel by puffing into the threaded end, clean up any juice that is sitting above the stuffing and won't soak in. Then on a fresh fill let it lay on different sides so all of the stuffing will get damp. If you vape it too soon there could be dry stuffing near the coil and you could singe and ruin it. Then it will need juice much less frequently than a cart but you need to keep it damp so you can get 4-7 days or more use out of it. If you run one dry and singe it, it can be ruined flavorwise.

Youtube saved me when I was learning all this stuff, there are hundreds of video's on there showing people doing all this stuff.... beware that they don't always do it the same way, IMO that just goes to show that there's really no right or wrong way to do most of this e-cig stuff, there's just ways that work and ways that don't.

By doing that you are not pressuring him at all and he can go at his own pace. Almost all of my friends that are using e cigarettes did it this way and every single one of them are done with regular smokes now.
