well I’m a new member here but have been vaping since the Stone Age. I take battery’s and safety is number one on my list so when I bought new batteries and there markings are not the same as my other older Sanyo Bs I’m worried.

The battery’s markings SANYO CH NCR20700B 7815
There is also a sticker on the other side which in my older battery was white and looked like they were typed on a 70s typewriter “20700 4250mah” I think they also said 4.2v but I can’t remember they have since been rewrapped.

The new battery’s also have a sticker but is clear says 20700 3.7V 4250mAh and under that text “DO NOT SHORT CIRCUIT”

So I’m asking are these Authentic because the person I bought them from has been pressing me to give good feedback which I won’t until I know what I’m dealing with good battery’s

Stickers are added by the distributor/reseller to comply with shipping regulations and can be ignored. There are almost as many different stickers as there are distributors.

The wrap’s printing can change over time and by country/factory of manufacture so different printing, on its own, isn’t a big concern.

The bottom of your battery has the lightly laser etched code on it unique to Sanyo batteries. While this doesn’t guarantee it’s a NCR20700B it appears to be a Sanyo. There is no way for any of us to be able to say for sure just by looking at photos though.

Panasonic I had heard of. I was not aware they are the same company as sanyo

Panasonic bought Sanyo’s battery business a few years ago so you'll often see the names used interchangeably when talking about Sanyo’s batteries.

Yea that laser print says 2VH4W3

So there is a chance they could be fake or not the same cells I bought 14 months ago or simply rewrap of the same old cells I bought back then.

Is there a sure way of knowing?

Like has been said, not from a picture.

Best way to ensure you get authentic cells is to buy only from reputable recommended dealers.

Or they could be genuine and Sanyo just changed the wrap over that long period of time or used a different wrap in a different country of manufacture.

There is always a chance of anything with any cell at any time from any vendor. :) There is just no sure way of knowing without close examination with the wrap off and testing them.

If you find mooch’s review of those cells he usually says battery X has the same mah,etc.etc. As battery Y so it’s likely a rewrap of battery Y.
It’s not an exact science so he may not say anything about it but in the past I’ve heard him say a battery has all the same vitals as a known battery so it’s likely a rewrap.

The problem with rewrap cells is they can & frequently do change the cells used underneath their wrap.

When you buy rewraps there is no way for the average user to determine what cell they receive.
Even mooch can't be certain what cell is used for the rewraps you recieve, only the exact ones he tested.

Best to buy authentic name brand cells from reputable dealers and avoid rewraps altogether.

If it looks exactly the same, with a 10x loupe, and also performs the same then I’ll call it a rewrap.

Welcome to ECF, you are getting some good advice, so I'd heed it. I'd say from your descriptions, it's possible they're real but I can't say that based on the pics. If they're working for you in your application and you have decent battery life, well it's up to you if you continue to use them.

However, next time, a reputable authentic seller is the best bet. You will find authentic vendors in the last cell of Mooch's most updated chart.

I have usually found that buying direct and authentic is also CHEAPER than using other sources, but it is also FAR more a guarantee of getting what you actually ordered,, which reduces safety concerns a lot.

    Best of luck,

    Anna

Rob33 answered your question. Follow Mooch's blog and You Tube channel and stay informed on battery information by browsing the battery/charger sub-forum here. Mooch performs a remarkable service for the entire vaping community. We are extremely fortunate to be able to take advantage of his knowledge and services.

You do know that these batteries were never intended to be sold and used on the open market, right? Lg, Panasonic/Samsung, Samsung, and Sony design 18650 batteries to be used only in battery packs for the automobile and power tool industries. In fact, Sony and Lg have been quite vocal against using their batteries in e-cigs.

Companies such as Efest, MXJO, Imren, et al are known as battery "re-wrappers". They don't actually make batteries. They buy the rejects from the Big Four companies, slap a new wrap on the cells, and then exaggerate the rating so that they can milk you for buying an inferior battery. They take advantage of uninformed vapers.
