Yes, it is strictly a reference to the shape which obviously differs from the cylindrical tube we commonly associate with cigars, cigarettes and, as an extension, PVs. Bottom feeders are also very practical, work very well and as a result are quite popular. I use a box from madvapes. They have a variable voltage version as well.

As little as a few years ago the choices in ecigs were pretty much limited to the ones that looked like cigarettes. A few enterprising individuals soon realized that a bigger 3.7v battery would be a good thing and a simple way to package it was in a 2xAA battery box. A 14500 battery produced the 3.7v and fit nearly perfectly where one of the AAs would have gone. The other side of the box made a perfect place for a switch and an atomizer connection.

As others have noted, they now come in a wide range of styles, but it's still hard to beat an easily available plastic box as a place to start making a cheap DIY vaporizer.

I wanna thank you all (veterans of the vapor world) for all your info thus far. I've done a lot of research and heard of the term but thought you had to build them yourself which immediately lost my attention. So I settled on an ego first, then graduated to a Prodigy V3.1. I must admit though, I'm kinda wanting a luxurious box mod made out of some type of exotic wood!

If you aren't sure you will like a box mod and are handy with a soldering iron there are alot in the mods section that cost very little to make. I made (ok with my son's help) a puck box mod for $12. It uses regular rechargeables that you buy at walmart. Loved the idea that no matter what as long as I had juice and an atomizer I wasn't going to be denied my vape.LOL Saw another kind the other night that the parts cost $8. The people on here are very helpful when you build them and are great about sharing thier discoveries.

You just need to try not to drop the plastic box mods - they can crack. I have a pair of them in case break one. They are nice and small and pocketable and most have an on/off switch on them. I just got a 901/808 one for my 808 cartos. And a nice little wood one "twig" from ecigworkshop (closest to pocketable they have).

Madvapes carries the best box mods for your dollar imho. If you want to try one, I'd recommend going to their site first. As it was said before, they are an inexpensive way to obtain a rock solid vaping experience. I own two MV VV box mods and one MV 3.7 volt box mod and I can't say enough good things about them (considering such a small investment it takes to obtain one!!!).
