the first battery mods were modified flashlight tubes, therefore the tranditional mod design is tubular.

with the added electronics and then a big tank on the top the full device is almost a foot long!

A box mod makes things a more compact design by putting the battery and electronics in a box instead of stacking one on top the other

the mukey illustrates the concept though it is not itself a box mod.

I'm probably not the best one to answer this, considering my noobness, but I don't seem to have a preference. I like both my MVP2 (box) and Provari (traditional). They are both very different in form, but still do the same thing as far as 'general' function. I prefer to use my Provari, now that I have it, but I don't think that has anything to do with it's form in this context. As with anything, it just comes down to personal preference (and yes, I realize that isn't at all helpful).

its really hard to give a good answer to a badly formulated question... (please don't take offense, I just want to give you better insight on what to ask and narrow your search)

there are different types of mods
mechanical
unregulated
electronic VV and VW

mechanical
generallyspeaking tube mods are smaller than box ones but some like the reo incorporate a juice bottle or some recesed ones like the kato or chels mini-ecig put the tank on a lower place so those are bigger but much shorter
unregulated

electronic VV and VW
the box are shorter in length but beefier

As has already been said, it's all personal preference :) I like both form factors (tube and box) and have both options so I can use whichever I feel like at the time. Just find a mod that has the features you want and meets your aesthetic expectations and go for it :)

The Kayfun is 22mm wide, so that would probably be something you'd want to keep in mind in your search (Some people are OCD about having matching sizes between mods and atomizers, others not so much)

As the others have stated its all personal preference, I dont like the box-type mods myself. I love my Provari V2 along with my Kayfun lite + V2, its the perfect set-up for me but I also have back-ups for my back-ups. Is it excessive, maybe, but at least Im off the analogs after a PAD habit for close to 25 years. Happy Vaping!
