Please excuse my ignorance. I'm not familiar with terms.
I was in a Vap shop in the city yesterday shopping for juice for my pencil. The guys at the counter were smoking some sort of box, fairly large thing that were producing billowing clouds of vapor. One told me the juice for these things is thicker in consistency because something sat right on the coils.

Please tell me what these things were and what I should look for when shopping for one le power and what juice is needed and what sets right on top of the coils. The reason is I like a good throat hit and these things looked like they would deliver.

He was probably talking about an RDA or "Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer": RDA. That's not the box itself but the thing that sits on top of it (like your "pencil" probably has a battery, and a detachable/refillable tank that goes on top -- the "box mod" replaces your battery, and the RDA replaces your tank.) The benefit of a box mod over your pencil battery is that it has a bigger (read: more powerful, longer-lasting) battery and can likely dish out the higher amounts of power that will be needed to run an RDA, compared to your current battery which won't be up to the task.

If you're not into rebuilding (Rebuildable Atomizer Systems), then you might consider a sub-ohm tank like the Subtank from KangerTech or the Atlantis from Aspire. These will put out the big billowy clouds like an RDA but you don't have to mess with wrapping wires or dropping any juice directly on your coil, instead they still use replaceable/disposable coil heads and you fill up a tank with several ml's of juice at a time. They still require the additional power output, though, so you won't be able to run one of these on your pencil-type battery any more than you would an RDA.

There are many "Box Mods", I personally have only ever used one, so I'm not going to be able to give you good advice. I will say though, that it's not the box itself that makes it perform the way it does. It's a combination of the power the mod puts out to the coil, the coil itself, the liquid being used, the airflow across the coil, among other things. You've got some figuring out to do, but the good thing is your at the right place to do it.

"Mod" is short for "modified". The original personal vaporizers were modified from flashlights, so the name stuck.

Mods can be box or tube shaped. There are mechanical or unregulated mods (no electronics), and there are regulated mods (with electronics). A mod is basically a battery holder, a power switch, and a 510 connector to attach a juice delivery device.

More than likely, what you observed on those "boxes" were rebuildable atomizers (RBA). With these juice attachments, the user makes their own wire coils and wicks from cotton. These coils and wicks are larger than the factory-made coils found in most clearomizer tanks in beginner setups, hence they make more and denser vapor.

They were also using an e-liquid which is primarily if not entirely made of Vg (vegetable glycerin).

The setups those fellas were using are considered "advanced" devices, and not for someone who hasn't researched and educated themselves on. Not knowing what you are doing with these advanced setups could lead to an explosion or fire.

The guys in the vape shop were enthusiasts, pushing the limits and for most of us regular joes we just do not need to go there. If your pencil has helped you stop smoking then that is really all you need. If you are still smoking some cigs and find your set-up a little lacking, then you may want to step up your game with something a little better and more suited for your own needs. Going from the set-up you have now to an advanced unit such as you saw the other day is not likely necessary or a wise step for you to take.

A logical next step for you might be an Istick 20 (or 30) box, that is the battery unit and then a very popular tank system for it like the "Nautilus Mini".

You do have many options however so educating yourself on the options before you buy is critical to making an informed decision/purchase and getting what suits your needs best. Cheers.

That is amazing. Is there juice any good? The price is right. Are they in the USA?
You don't want their juice! Trust me!
They are in China, order stuff, forget about it, then when it shows up it's like Christmas! Ten days is pretty quick for them to the US.

NO!
The juice sucks.

Some tips:

-order over $20 or the free shipping is by slow boat.
- read the reviews AND discussions on each item before you buy.
-only buy items that are listed as "ships next day" or "in stock".

Normal orders take about 9-12 days from China to So Cal. Depending on Customs.
