I currently use an Joye Ego with the XL Atomizer and I have a double AA type box mod with a 510 recessed connection.

I really love the vaping experience from the xl atty on my ego. But for work I use my
box mod. (pocket friendly, small, stealth vaping/ doesn't look like a cig etc...)

I just don't really care for the vap I get from the 510. Now the XL with the whistle tip :)

My question, has anybody ever made a box mod with a RECESSED connection that will fit an Ego XL atty?

I know the tapper on the XL atty poses a challenge, especially if designing it recessed into the body. But it would give it a small form factor.

I've included a version via Photoshop.

The recessed atty connection that large might be a bit difficult to put together. Extending the atty connection out from the box approximately 3/8" should allow you to mount the XL atty/carto/tank atty with ease, although it would result in a slightly larger package.

This was the solution I used for my box mods (for awhile) just to be able to use the XL atty's. If you look at the standard battery connectors, there is a line 1/16" from the bottom. If you mount that line flush with the outside edge of the box, the XL's will fit perfectly. The problem I ran into was the connector easily snapped off. There's just not enough surface contact between the box/connector for glue or epoxy to hold. Bump into something or overtighten the atty, and it's done. I tried creating a recess in the box for the XL atty...same results.

Since I refuse to use anything other than my XL's, I ended up using the connector off an old Ego battery. The connector/button assembly is press fit, so just screw on an atty and flex/bend it until it comes apart. Once in pieces you'll have a connection with a 1/4" mounting surface. It's a bit of a hassle and destroys a battery, but you'll have a solid box/connection.

If you're not into DIY or handy with a soldering iron, an alternative would be getting an $2 screw in extention.
