so the flavor i'm experiencing is, in effect, burnt liquid?

It would be hard to say. It could be residue on the wire wick or they used to ship some with some nasty crap in them.

If you did not give the wick time to well wick the liquid my guess would be it isn't burnt because there is no liquid. Start low on the voltage and work your way up.

Pressing the button for a couple seconds definitely shouldn't ruin anything. When I clean my coils I dry burn them at 4 second intervals until the coils start to glow again. I don't even let them sit to dry out. I just wipe up any excess PGA and/or water, dry burn and then use.

Pull the top off and put a drop of juice right on the wick/coil to help get it going. Reassemble and have at it.

popping/sizzling...nothin'.
Is the atty heating up at all. Being a top coil is the mouth piece getting warm at all while you try to get vapor?

If no popping or sizzling from the water... and the atty doesn't get warm you may have popped the coil.

You can try to put a drop or two of liquid on the wick where the atty is. Let it soak in (you can watch it soak in) and see. Sorta prime it. Sorry I am not familiar with the CE 5, but it does look similar to other clearos.

There is no way to remove a wick from the ce5 it's a vertical tube with wicks stuffed inside.

No, the CE5 is a top coil visible wick clearo. If someone else is calling their product a CE5 when the wicks are in the tube, then that is more like a CE7 (at least that is what it is usually sold as) Regardless of the nomenclature, a picture would help! You are right though, there are no flavor wicks to remove either way.

As for 'killing' the clearo by getting a dry hit off it - that is highly unlikely. As someone else in the thread said, the wicks do not burn. In fact, a dry burn (where you burn the coil dry to clean) is a good way to clean these clearos.

What you are experiencing OP is a dry hit, this is where not enough liquid is in the wick for the coil to burn. So instead of getting vapor, you are getting a mixture of hot coil and heated air - not a nice mix, but you are not burning plastic.

CE5's are a little fiddly to get a good vape from, but you can.

What liquid are you using and what ratio is it? Thicker liquids take a lot longer to wick in that device.

so right now i'm vaping halo turkish. it's a new liquid for me and it taste SLIGHTLY burnt but much more pleasant. is it ok to assume this is safe to use from here on out or do i need a new clearo?

I think Halo liquids are more PG than VG so they are thin enough in that clearo.

Some tips for good wicking. Keep your clearo more than 1/2 full. Twirl it around when using it to keep the liquid in contact with the wicks. Take slower, longer pulls than short hard pulls, and finally, give it a rinse out in hot water every 3/4 refills.

I quit smoking using a CE5 clearo. I used them for a good month. They can give you a decent vape, but you know already, there are better performing clearos out there.

That clearo should be fine, as I said in my previous post, you didn't burn anything.

What should I buy for a better clearo? I'm down...

If it was me doing this whole vaping over again from the beginning.

I would start with a mini viva nova as a top coil or a protank 2 as a bottom coil. Not the clones. I also heard the iclears for top coils are nice although I have never used one.

There are a ton of different delivery devices out there. Unfortunately for me the only way to know what I liked was to buy.

Nice. Any other recommendations? How about sites for purchasing?

hello,

so no one mentioned it but your CE5 does not come apart does it ?

you can't screw the bottom off can you ? (it looks like a disposable)

like most have said your getting a dry, burnt taste from lack of juice on the wick
fill it to the silicone (top plastic inside), screw the tip on and swirl it around...
the longer it sits the better it will taste

turn your battery down to lowest setting and run it like that for a while
till it gets broke in, then THEN you can slowly start to increase power (slowly)

here's a pic of what your wick kinda looks like inside
> DV CE5 Coil Head - 2 Long Wick - 1.8ohms

here's a tried and true bottom coil you might like (as so many do) also this 'site' is Very Good

- Kanger eVod bottom coil clearomizer - Stainless

good luck, keep asking :)
