Hello everyone! Glad to finally jump on the vapor train :p I've been a habitually Newport smoker for about 5 years now. I tried "Blu E-cigs" and they were awful! Terrible flavor, lack of vapor, dry throat, no nicotine buzz unless you take a 10 second HARD draw from it...

I bought my FIRST vapor set last night. A kangertech mini protank 2, and a Ego-VV battery with adjustable voltage. I bought some delicious 4 Seasonz liquid (summer), and I've been having a blast. But I have a few questions before I commit.

1. I have a 30mml bottle of juice, how long should that last me? I seem to go through a tank (1.3mml~ a day). But I feel like I'm almost 1/4 the way through the bottle. I smoked through a pack every 3-4 days, so I reckon the bottle will last me a month? Is this typically? What is a normal amount of liquid to burn through?

2. My EGO-VV has an adjustable voltage. I tend to keep it around 3.4 because I'm afraid going any higher will burn the wick (coil) out faster... I know it's different for everyone, but my friends tell me that 3.4 is REALLY low. should I be afraid to kick it up??

3. The guys at the shop straight ripped me off... Oh well... it was my first build so I was naive - but a bottle of 4 seasonz ran about $30.00 bucks at the store, online it's $13 - is it generally best to buy all vaping stuff online? Or are there some honest vapor stores?

4. Cheap e-liquids vs. the fancy ..... - does it really matter? Apparently brands like Suicide Bunny and 4 seasonz are more high-end... but what about the cheap stuff - does it burn out quicker, or do they typically have bad taste?

5. Finally legality. I know there is some big stuff going on in New York right now about banning the sale of e-liquids (thank god I'm safe here in Tennessee), but are these laws commonly proposed? Is the U.S. becoming more vapor friendly, or slowly turning away from it?

Thanks yall :)

Welcome to the forum! First off, I just want to say don't be afraid to commit. I started vaping over 5 years ago and each time went back to smoking. And your not alone when it comes to being ripped off, but have confidence that you will get tons of help and support here. This is the first time I have ever made it longer than 6 months but times have changed and the equipment is better now. Glad your here and congrats on trying again! I really can't guide you on juice because I only use Nicoticket 95% of the time, but the general e liquid threads are great. Once again, welcome and happy vaping!

Welcome to the wonderful world of vaping! I have to agree with you, Blu is probably the worst e-cig company out there. E liquid life is definitely circumstantial, and varies depending on how often you vape. If you only vape when you would normally smoke, 30ml will last a long time. However, I have noticed that since I can vape indoors and a lot more places I do it much more often than I would formerly smoke a real cigarette. I'm not too sure about the voltage question, I'm one to just stick to eGo type batteries with fixed voltages. You also have to consider the resistance of whatever cartomizer/clearomizer/tank that you are using. I order about 90% of my supplies online because their is generally more stock and choices available, and yes it is generally cheaper online. High-end vs low-end, well it depends. I love my Halo juices which are expensive. However, V2 liquid is about the same price and I like Halo much better. On the other end, I order juice from ECBlend, and it is ridiculously cheap, but it is definitely tasty if you steep it for a few days to a week. As for the legality thing, I don't really follow that. Not that I care, it is very easy to "stealth vape" if you know what i mean lol! Hopefully this helps answer your questions, and good luck with vaping!

Congrats!
As far as the juice goes, I use about 5ml a day, and it doesn't bother me. I use to smoke full flavored B&H menthol. It all depends on the liquid, wether you will burn it up more or not at higher voltage, give it a try.
There are some nice stores out there. And will hopefully help you out, there are reviews online. Look around online and buy small bottles to start. I make my own juice for about 50 cents a day. And your bottle would last me about 6 days! The high-end juices are great, but, I have found some great tastes for less money. Look for US made liquids, and USP grade base.
There is great info here. Research, research, research.
I believe that when the big tobacco companies start to get in on ecigs, there will be some problems that come up. Limited flavors, for one, but, you can always buy flavors to put in them. And it may get more expensive because of taxes. But, if they get on board, the government may get less invovled, big tobacco has lobbying power. There are scientist in europe who have stated that the ecig is less harmfull, and are trying get goverments, to not rush to limit their usage. I can vape in non-smoking casinos in Florida, they actually like me sitting there vaping and gambling. I try to be respectful of any non-smoking signs in buildings, but outside is fair game.
Best of luck to you. Vape on.

As far as the vv goes, it really depends on how each juice tastes! Look up an ecig/ohms/voltage chart to see the safe zones of vaping - and be sure to check out more than one chart because some are different. I'm vaping a 24mg vanilla (eh - i like fruity better) at 3.4 on my itaste vv/vw atm. My ohms detector says 2.7 for my kanger evod, and that voltage is in the green range in most charts for me. Plus, it doesn't taste burnt and there is a lot of vapor produced. I've only been vaping for 2 weeks this time (VC starter kit the first time) and I'm starting to get the hang of it. Hope that helped :p

First off ... Welcome to the Forum and the world of vaping. There's a wealth of info you'll find on here.

1) From what you stated on how much you vape daily, I would realistically say that a 30ml would last you 2 maybe 3 weeks.

2) 3.4 volts does seem a little low, but if it taste good and satisfies you, that's all that matters. The basic beginners EVOD kits that are fixed voltage are generally fixed @ 3.7 volts

3) I personally buy all my vaping "stuff" online, generally much cheaper ... but the majority of local Brick & Mortar stores are honest, just have a lot higher overhead than internet sites. But if your new and need "Hands on" advice they are an invaluable source.

4) I've had a few "High End" juices, and some can be good ... but not good enough to justify 3x the price of places like Mt Baker Vapor. I buy all my juice there not only have 95% of their juice I've try tasted GREAT ... @ $7.49 for a 30ml, over 180 flavors plus when you spend $15 or more they give you a FREE 15ml ejuice of your choice ... you can't go wrong! Plus if you use the coupon code vaporfrombaker you get an additional 10% discount.

E Cigarette | Buy Electronic Cigarettes | E Juice - Mt Baker Vapor

Since they make your juice fresh the day you order, you may have to "steep" the juice for 3-7 days. A great & very effective steeping video on youtube:

Again, welcome to the forum:vapor:

I started vaping with the same setup as yours several month ago... Still use it often. I'll go through 2-3 minitank refills a day. I also keep my voltage low for the mini protank and protank- no higher than 3.4 volts.. Seems too easy to burn my wicks if I go higher... Also don't like the somewhat hotter vape. Regarding juices, all the local stores I've shopped charge significantly more for the same product online. I've also bought some high end juices though my favorites tend to be low priced (ECBLEND) or mid priced (Nicquid). Congrats on getting away from the Newports!

I smoked through a pack every 3-4 days, so I reckon the bottle will last me a month? Is this typically? What is a normal amount of liquid to burn through?

That's like asking how long will 5 gallons of gas last... there's so many variables that it's not an easy question to answer. In "economy" mode, it can last well over a week, maybe two. But that's vaping at low voltages and small puffs. the more vapor, the faster the juice will run out.
2. My EGO-VV has an adjustable voltage. I tend to keep it around 3.4 because I'm afraid going any higher will burn the wick (coil) out faster... I know it's different for everyone, but my friends tell me that 3.4 is REALLY low. should I be afraid to kick it up??
Absolutely no reason to be afraid to kick it up a notch. If you're satisfied, then by all means leave it where it's at. try kicking it up a notch to see if you like it better.. just find your comfortable spot. The "average" rating for a standard EGO non variable battery is around 3.7. some go higher, some lower.

3. The guys at the shop straight ripped me off... Oh well... it was my first build so I was naive - but a bottle of 4 seasonz ran about $30.00 bucks at the store, online it's $13 - is it generally best to buy all vaping stuff online? Or are there some honest vapor stores?

I wouldn't necessarily say they ripped you off. Local shops tend to charge more. They usually have few empmloyees, have to pay the rent, wages, advertising, electricity, mortgage, etc... So, more overhead is usually accepted. For juice, think of it like buying "premium" ejuice. That doesn't mean you'll like the taste, but if you like it, you may want to treat yourself to a bottle from time to time. Personally, I buy locally from time to time on purpose. I know I'm paying more, but at the same time, I'm supporting a local business and helping the industry a bit. Most of my orders are online, and I buy my hardware straight from china most of the time. For E-juice, I like Mt. Baker Vaper. For hardware, I like FocalEcig or Fasttech. They're from china though, so I expect 1 month for delivery, but cheap prices.

4. Cheap e-liquids vs. the fancy ..... - does it really matter? Apparently brands like Suicide Bunny and 4 seasonz are more high-end... but what about the cheap stuff - does it burn out quicker, or do they typically have bad taste?
This is more of a personal taste as well. Mt. Baker Vapor has cheap E-liquids at a good price. I've paid more, and tasted worse, and I've paid more and tasted better. As long as you don't buy from a convenience store or "Smoke shop" you should be ok. Vape shops are a touch and go thing, but they at least allow you to taste the juice before you buy.

Currently, Vaping is considered legal. There has been proposed regulations trying to classify it as a cigarette and tax it like a tobacco product. If they succeed, it would put it in the same catagory as a regular cigarette. That is a bad thing, because as it is now, small shops can do their own advertising and marketing, and it gets the word out. Some laws that were proposed would turn your 30ml bottle into a $120 purchase. There is much speculation as to why the laws have been proposed. The latest proposed laws would set the industry back to where your EGO and Protank devices would be banned. The FDA has reasoned that they have not done any testing on the item, so it will have to be sent in for testing, which would cost the manufacturer thousands for each device, and wait for them to get around to testing it, which could take several years. The last testing the FDA has done, was on the "cigalikes", like the BLU ecigs, and the FDA is trying to push laws that would forbid sales of any item except for what they've tested. There is much talk as to who's lobbying for these rules. It's common theory that big tobacco companies are lobbying to tax them to hinder people from switching, or ban them completely.

The people are becoming more vapor friendly, but the government is wanting more control on the industry and is wanting to tax it. The new laws are commonly being introduced under a "sin tax" type mentality. Cigarettes were taxed because they kill people and raise hospital prices due to many uninsured smokers needing hospital attention/care. They're wanting to tax ecigs because they look like you're smoking. They are also saying that vaping will lead to smoking, which everything I've seen and experienced is the opposite.

Anyways, that's my quick run-down and some of my opinions to boot. :) hope this helps.

I've been burning through ejuice like crazy. 5-7 mls a day. I kind of don't really want to order my juices online anymore for some reason, I really don't know why. Some I have to get online, like Space Jam and Lazarus Vintage. They're "high end" juices and I can tell you they blow anything from MBV out of the water. My local B&M has been closed for 3 days now... Starting to wonder if they closed up. That'd be a damn shame, because I was in love with a dragonfruit/raspberry/watermelon mix they had. Bought my first real vape from them too. :(

Welcome and I don't know what to add. I vape my protank at 4. I have learned a lot about the online juices. I just ordered some from the vape mall. It was very inexpensive and I figured I would try it. They were on clearance. So I got a couple. I bought from the B&M and they have gone down in what they sell. I still by my filters and toppers there. I think that this is a journey and you should try everything.

eliquid is expensive and will remain so for a while.
I buy 24mg PG only liquid and add glycerin to it to save on cost.

Don't spend too much on eliquids; shop around;

for voltage just experiment slowly; don't go too high all of a sudden otherwise you can burn some juice and you won't get rid of the burnt taste till you change the coil.

One of the biggest improvements you can make on a coil is cotton rewick.

Welcome. Great choice on first set-up! When my friends want to quit & start vaping, I insist on picking out their stuff & buy that ego-vv/protank II mini set from a guy on eBay $24.99 authentic. U can expect to pay more at vape shopa but it is good to have a relationship with the staff, to explain things & answer questions. Great start, good luck.

Welcome Geno! :)

Regarding your question about how much juice vapers typically go through per month, there really isn't a "typically" with that. I use about 3mL of juice per day. Just over a tank-full in my Protank 3. So a 30mL bottle lasts me about ten days. There are people here who use up to 7-10mL a day, while a few even go up to 15-20mL or more.

Having been here almost five months, my limited-educated-guess would be that the average daily e-juice usage among ECF members is around 4-5mL per day. A more senior member may be able to be more accurate than me on that. If so, they can correct me, and I'll bow to their better knowledge.

Welcome, again, and keep vaping!

4) I've had a few "High End" juices, and some can be good ... but not good enough to justify 3x the price of places like Mt Baker Vapor. Quoted for truth! :)

I'm a big Mt. Baker fan. My all-day-vape is Black Ice 50/50/18/+1. I've tried about 20 or so of their flavors so far, and they're all good. And I love their terms and perks. Speaking of which, I want to order from them again soon. Try out some new flavors. It's been a while, since my last purchase was a big 236mL bottle of Black Ice.

Nice work on taking a big step toward improved health and the confidence that comes with beating a longstanding addiction! Most of us started with setups similar to yours (ego/ spinner/ twist) and kicked the tobacco habit with a bit of willpower. Higher quality juices definitely make a difference in ability to stick with vaping over going back to analogs; most juices are a good lick better tasting than burnt plant matter. Best of luck in your journey to harm reduction
