Brand New to Vaping

Alright, so walking in the mall yesterday there was a vendor that was selling an e-cig. I have tried to quit smoking for awhile so I said why not, he gave me the full demo, even made me think I was getting a deal. $125 for a 51trio starter pack, ecig looks like a real cig. (one automatic battery, one atomizer, 15 carts, 1 wall charger, and 1 small bottle of e-juice) now being completly new to this I was like hey, sounds good. I forked over the cash as my girlfriend is looking at me like I was nuts. I got home and ripped apart the bag and starting to try it, it took me close to 25 min to get any vapor out. But I did not know better, after fiddling with it all night and waking up ...... off the next morning because no matter how hard I tried I could not even get the vapor I got with the first hit (after 25 min of trying the first time I got vapor). Took it to the guy, he replaced my atomizer for $10 and now it seems to be working pretty good. I was surfing the net all day and spent a great deal of time on this site today and watching different videos, and I am starting to thing I made a bad purchase. I dont get near the vapor some units are giving out for half the cost I paid for this thing. Did I make a mistake? Anything I can do to make my 51 better? I was looking into ordering the PureSmoker Ace unit now seeing that seems to work better, Any Ideas? I smoke about a pack+ a day, and want to get off the smoke into something better. My mom was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer because of her smokeing for 20 years. I really want off the smoke, but cant seem to kick the nic habit.

Welcome to ECF, Artus.

The PureSmoker Ace is a model called the Kr808D-1, and it is a very good model. It's one of the most popular starter models, in fact.

It's a 2-piece system, with a cartomizer and a battery, so it's different form what you're using now. Many people actually consider it to be simpler. It has a strong throat hit, warm vapor and taste, and the best battery life of any mini-sized e-cig. (Mini is slightly larger than a real cig, but still cig-shaped and compact.)

The other popular starter model is the Joye 510, which is also very good. It is a 3-piece, with atomizers and carts, like what you have now. But unlike what you have now, it is a very consistent model, and it gets tons of vapor. It has a lighter, "cleaner" taste. It is also "mini"-sized.

Either one of those kits you can get for under $50. I started with the Kr808D-1 kit, which I got from ElectroNicStix for $35. They also sell the 510.

And I quit smoking the first day I had my kit. Today is my 2-month anniversary. :)

I now also have a 510, which I enjoy as well. I use them for different "moods." You can't go wrong with either one.

don't beat yourself up over buying a kiosk e-cig. be happy that it opened up the world of e-cigs to you and that you found this site. e-cigs have a pretty steep learning curve for a lot of people. many of us have over paid for our first setup.

once you quit smoking and have an e-cig you like you'll make up that cost fairly quick. you also can't put a price on your health. the nicotine isn't really the issue with cigs, it's the tar and thousands of other chemicals you're getting from them.

welcome to ECF!

This is the reason I use the phrase Kioskophobia. The good thing is, it is a quick way for people to learn about ecigs. The bad part is, they google it when they get home and spend a lot of time slapping their foreheads.

It sounds like of all the bad kiosk vendors out there, you ended up with a decent setup. Congrats. :) Now read the forums, the reviews, watch some youtube videos and get your self edumacated! :)

Good luck!

I heard someone say that the Smoke51 trio is a rn4081 type. I would keep that as a backup and see if you can get a manual battery and spare atty for it when you find it cheap. Being a pack+ day smoker I would look at something along the lines of an ego / riva / torando / hello016 for the larger mAh batteries (higher mAh the longer it can go before needing to be recharged). If you spend a lot of time near a computer or wall outlet then a 510 or kr808d-1 type using a passthru would work also. Run the unit off usb power and save battery for when you are mobile. What ever route you go get small (3 to 5 ml) samples of juice in various flavor and nic strenghts so you can find out what you like and what level is needed to curb your nic habit.

Welcome to ECF. A lot of us got ripped off on our first purchase. I bought one from a mall kiosk and had the same problem. Overpriced piece of junk. If you just got it maybe you can return it for a refund. Now that you've found ECF you're ready to make an informed decision. Read through the sticky's at the top of the New Members forum, there's a lot of information there just for people in your situation. Read a bunch of posts because there's a a lot of people asking the same questions you are going to have. You can get started with a decent unit for between $50-$100 and be set for a month if you do your homework. The KR808 and the 510 are the 2 most popular starter units, and for good reason. They're cheap, reliable, and give you a good experience. Watch for posts about them. If you have any doubts or concerns just ask questions. There's a lot of knowledaeble people here and they'll give you good answers and advice.

I checked with the guys at the mall and its an "all sales final and no refunds" situation. But now I know better, I guess it will be a backup one for me. I ended up purchasing a Kr808d from PureSmoker.com and got some atoms, I am guessing the atoms are like the carts with my 51 right? Are they still refillable with e-juice? E-juice seems to be the way to go with these, from what I can tell the carts dont seem to last too long on their own. On the plus side my brother who is also a heavy smoker really wants one, so I am converting him with my 51 at the moment, I just need another battery for it, It keeps diein too quick with 2 of us using it. Any idea on how to get another battery without having to spend the $50 smoke51.com wants for one battery? We both would like one to use at home but we also want a portable unit that does not look too weird to use while driving. Any suggestions?

Alright I was looking over my order (cant wait for it to be here) but I want to make sure I got everything that I need. So here is what I purchased. Of course it was after I purchased it I noticed the color of the KR808..... but oh well, Haha. My main concern is after looking over the site I am unsure about the attys, I beleive that they come with the Atomz... but I have not heard Atomz anywhere but on Puresmoker.com. I just dont want to be disapointed when I get the kit and its not complete.

Went to the site and looked. They call their cartomizers Atomz. so what your getting is one kit (2 batteries, usb charger, wall adaptor to plug the usb charger into, 6 ml juice, 10 cartomizers (thier Atomz). When the kits arrives you should be abe to vape. Just keep on eye on how fast you go thru the catros (cartomizers {Atomz}) The 6ml juice will last approx 2days (avg 3ml day) however it may last you longer or shorter.

What you have is an RN4081 model, and that is a good little atomizer.

You probably are just struggling with the automatic batteries, and that is why it is so inconsistent for you.
Automatic batteries often take some practice to get them working good.

Stand in front of a mirror and watch the LED as you take drags.
You want to see how hard you need to draw on it to get that LED lit.
And you want to see how hard you need to draw on it to keep it lit as long as possible.

For some automatic batteries your only choice is to do consecutive short drags.
And it is often said that a quick short initial draw (primer puff) followed by a real drag will work well.

Most people recommend slower, longer draws.
I suggest getting a manual battery.

Welcome Artus:)
You are definitely on the right track. A Kr8o8d-1 is a great starter ecig (still use mine daily out n about) and i am sure you will notice the difference in in your vapin experience.

You are asking the right questions and checking out this forum is a huge step in the right direction.

You will (if your anything like the rest of us...grin) Probably invest some more money soon in checking more stuff out. Different juices, mods, atties, dripping etc. Its all well worth it when you find your "sweet spot" and its fun too. As a previous poster said when its your health your talking about..whats a few hundred bucks?

Enjoy the journey my friend...and Vape on!

Artus first of all welcome to ECF. Second don't beat yourself up over your first purchase. Most of us move on from whatever we start with and if it took finding out about ecigs in the mall then perhaps that was the easiest way for you learn about ecigs and find ECF. Here you will find everyone willing and wanting to assist you in whatever way we can. I so glad you are here, you CAN do this.

Yikes! I just took a look at that smoke51.com - $$$$$$$$ wow.
Sorry this was your first experience. You might be better cutting your loses and go with the ego - I think bestecig.com has a pretty good price - or the Tornado at totallywicked.com and these batteries will last a lot longer for you
Also, try a low resistance 510 atty with the ego/tornado - try some sampler e juice from totally wicked to fill your cartridges with and I think you'll find the "hit" and volume of vapor to be darn close to a real cigarette.
It got me off tobacco after 20 years - pack a day

It looks like you're set to get started. From my experience the filled cartos and juice you ordered should last about 5 to 7 days, although I think most of us vaped ourselves silly when our new toys arrived. So, you may want to order at least a couple of bottles of juice a day or two after get your pv. You don't want to run out and have to go back to analogs while waiting for a juice shipment.
