Howdy All,

I'm a longtime pack-a-day smoker. I recently quit - I'm on day 7 and having a rough time of it. I miss my ciggies terribly and feel depressed. But I'm determined to get off the analogs before they kill me.

My question is this. After I have weened myself off of the nicotine of analog smokes, is it prudent to enter the e-cig world by getting an e-cig starter pack with the ZERO nicotine cartridges? I like the idea of getting the marlboro-flavored vapor without the nicotine. Has anyone had any experience doing this? Is it satisfactory? I don't like the idea of FINALLY quitting smoking, but staying hooked on the nicotine, but I need SOMETHING as an alternate to an analog smoke in my hand.

Also, any recommendations on a cigarette-sized e-cig for a newby that wants to vape nicotine-free? The blu seems attractive to me, while the dripping and the pen-length ones do not. I realize these are probably better, but it's more a mental substitute for me - it needs to look and feel like a smoke for me.

Thanks! - Moleman

The blu has a lot of bad reviews. I would suggest you look at the kr808d1's with the short batteries for ease of use just as a non-nic substitute. Look at reviews and always look at multiple vendors before buying. Whatever you do make sure the cartridges/cartomizers included do not have nicotine...you don't want to have nico sitting around the house calling for you!

Hi Moleman,

Well, this is a tough one. I guess it all comes down to whether you can stay quit without something to help. Only you can decide that. If you don't think you can make it otherwise, then consider going for a personal vaporizer (or e-cig). Vaping is probably A LOT safer than smoking, but it, like everything, carries some risk.

I dunno... (take the following with a grain of salt big enough to choke a horse):

if, after a few more days (or, maybe weeks), you are sure you can't make it, then go for it. If you do go for it, know that no one can be COMPLETELY sure about the safety of vaping.

Be aware, however, that some vaping fluid, even though it is labeled as zero nicotine, actually contains very small traces of it. To be sure you are getting zero nicotine, your best bet would be to use only pharma grade p.g. or v.g. and add your own flavorings, if desired.

I feel for you. It takes a hell of a strong will to ditch smokes cold turkey for a week.

If you do decide to go for vaping, I'd avoid the Blu. It doesn't have the best reputation and is overpriced. Better models are the Joye 510, DSE 901, DSE 801, M401 and KR808.

Good luck in which ever way you go,

Jherek

What else shall I recommend but a 510. Far easier to refill, and no burned plastic. Congratulations, Moleman, you managed to stumble into a minor war here ;)

Seriously, read the reviews, in the end, it is your decision. I'd reconsider on "looking like a cigarette" though, because a PV is not an analog cigarette, and even the analog-sized models feel differently, so you can only be disappointed. Rather, accept it as a different thing that does the same job better.

As for no nicotine, again, it depents on your decision, but here too I'd advise differently from Tarkus: Better have a bit low-level nicotin juice or cartomizers in the house, because one week is not so very long for being nicotine-free. And if you get to the point where you absolutely need your nic-fix NOW!, then you rather want some vapeable nicotine, because we all know what else you would get, don't we.
That is, if you do not want to look into the option of storing some smokeless nicotine, such as snus or snuff.

Leave it sealed, but if you trust yourself that you can leave it alone except in an emergency, then you should consider being prepared. Nicotine itself is not that harmful, but cigarette smoke is.

Another thing: If you stay with no-nicotine-juices, consider DIY. Particularly with those you can safe lots of money. Maybe not as long as you are not sure you want to vape, but when you are, check that option.
