Has anyone figured out what size(s) of hypodermic/piercing needle(s) work for this?

Jack, those piercing needles seem scaled differently than hypodermics as per:

For a 510 an 18G or 16G is good, 16G can impede airflow though.

A 16G is close to a 1/16" tube, but those often get ground down some to fit better.

So the 300 series won't rust? That would be the way to go then. I just always thought the 400 series SS was better since that's what they make surgical instruments from (but they are a "disposable" item, so I guess they don't have to take rust into account LOL )

I am a Pipefitter by trade, and as best I can remember (not 100% sure on this), the higher the number..the higher the CARBON content of the material. SS is an exotic metal. If you go that route, I would stick with something in the LOW 300's, below 309. The Carbon is what is magnetic, and is also what will rust. As stated in an earlier post...if a magnet sticks to it, it will eventually rust. Im a newbie to vaping and modding, but I would still suggest using plastic or rubber tubing going down in to the bottle. I have a high end bottom feeder, and that is how mine is done.

Yeah I'm starting to believe that this is definitely the way to go.

matweb is a great site if you came across some alloy and are unsure of it's properties.

I've done many material workup for things like jigs or tooling and have found materials that have extreemly similar properties to what the "engineering" fresh out of college says we should use at 1/3 to 1/4 the cost.

I don't do too much welding but seem to have the abilty to burn a hole thru just about anything. LOL.

BTW – 4xx series Stainless is many times a good choice especially if the part is going to require extensive machining or small hole drilling/tapping. Many SS are just plain nasty to work with in an un-annealed condition. 4xx series is design to be a more “free machining” material.

Wondering this as well since Madvapes sells them, and it looks like they're about 2 1/4 inches long without the plastic piece.

I havent read through all the pages but i use a 15ga needle about 1/2 long and a solicone tube going into the bottle . The 15ga is a perfect fit in a large hole 510 connector . I do use a brass drip cup but havent had any problem since i keep it clean when not using it .
