Hi, I've tried googling for answers but my case seems pretty specific, hoping to find some advice:
I recently switched from an ego (Totally Wicked tornado v3) after 7 months of vaping to a Totally wicked Curve with the tank that comes bundled with it. On first impressions it's great, a lot more throat hit and vapour production.

Problem is I'm getting shortness of breath similar to when I was smoking, I've tried turning the voltage down to 3v for a few days, then tried turning it up until the vapour felt a bit hotter/dryer for a few days, tried different airflow settings and I've dropped the nicotine level by half but nothing seems to be helping and it's worrying me, I really don't want to stop vaping but it was shortness of breath that made me quit analogs :(

I'm using the same eliquid I've always used (totally wicked red label menthol 1.4 and then later 0.0)

Thanks for your help

Sam

Go back to what you were previously using! I'm sorry you're having trouble. It could be that you have a much more powerful device and a 'sub-ohm' tank now.

Edit: Wait... That's an iStick 30W! Seriously, all of their 'Curve' devices are iSticks... Strange.

Anyways, I'm almost positive that it's because you've switched to a totally different world of vaping. It's much more powerful and can be harsh on some peoples throats. Your preferred method of vaping may have to be tootle puffing.

you say the new setup gives you a lot more throat hit and vapor. So you're breathing in a lot more vapor - a lot more PG/VG than you would with an ego setup.
Red label is 50/50 PG/VG. VG is more likely the culprit to give you the heavy-chested feeling, but it could be the PG. First thing to do is try switching to the original or patriot or titan line of e-liquid (70PG/30VG) and see if that makes things better or worse.

I agree with where you're going with this, however PG is what commonly causes issues for people.

Yes in most cases, but most times PG reaction is tightness of chest along with throat irritation. VG being thicker and heavier only gives a feeling of heaviness in the chest, like wearing a shirt 4 sizes to small, making it feel like you can't breath well. The third type of vaping allergic reaction and more commonly tied to a PG reaction only is the liquid flavorings, which are a lot of times suspended in PG. Only way to rule one of the three as the culprit is to cut away one, leaving the other two systematically, ie, PG reaction test use higher VG liquids, if still having reaction, try higher PG liquids over high VG, still having reaction, vape on unflavored nic liquids at various PG/VG ratios.

OP-
I agree with most, that newer, modern setup is more efficient than your last setup. It may take your lowering your nic level down by 1/3 to 1/2 depending upon how high your settings and output, ie, normally vaping 18mg (1.8%), lower down to 9mg (0.9%) or 6mg (0.6%), after that your body may need to adjust to the higher volume of vapor it is trying to metabolize and need to slow down your intervals between puffs or series of puffs. After that, follow the suggestions I and others have made to narrow out if you are having adverse reactions and exactly what it is. Good luck.

Can I be honest?

You have jumped from an old tech clearomizer (2012?) to a new higher power tank (2015) in one go. It could be the PG, it could just be amount of vapour.

I would feel this way if I vaped at (say) 25 watts with high PG liquid. In fact, I had this last night with a subohm tank at 18 watts. Not everyone can tolerate vapour that well, even after a few years.

Thanks djsvapour, I bought the curve because of it's battery life, should have done more research into the tank beforehand.

The issues you are having happen to me everytime I go below 1.0 ohms. Ive come to the conclusion its my body telling me Im a step above a "tootle puffer" no matter how advanced the atty is.

It also happens when I go over 8.5 watts.

Nothing wrong with any vape style, but dont let current styles dictate your comfort level.

Thanks anavidfan, guess I was a bit naive in thinking I had to have the tank that 'goes with' the Curve unit, I bought the tank and unit in a combo deal. I've put my old tank from the ego on the curve to see if the increased resistance helps, I would switch straight away to different liquid but I have around 120ml of TW Red Label that I bought before I purchased the Curve to get rid of.

Just as a side story, some of us were concerned to hear that Totally were selling the iStick as the "Curve" because they have a history of selling hardware at stupid money with their own name on it.
Many of us bought Innokin MVP v.2 for £36.99 when TW were selling them for £79.99.
It was good to see TW selling a complete kit and pricing it so fairly. Anybody who bought this did well, seriously... it was a super deal. :)
