A little info: I have been vaping for around 3 weeks to a month now. I go through about 2.5 ml of juice a day, and just take a few hits here and there when I need to. I switched to vaping because smoking has given me pretty bad asthma over the last ten Years or so I was smoking. I used to use my inhaler 5-6 Times a day, then go right back to smoking. Part of the reason I switched to vaping was because a) several ingredients of ecig juice are the same as what's in my inhaler, and b) because of reading so many stories about improved breathing after switching to e cigs. The day I got my e cig I switched over 100% and haven't smoked a real cig since. For the first 4 or 5 days after I switched my breathing got dramatically better, didn't wake up in the middle of the night anymore to use inhaler, didn't use the inhaler much at all actually. It was great. But after almost a month, my breathing has gotten steadily worse, and now I'm afraid it's going to be just as bad as before. I mean I understand its not a miracle cure or anything, and maybe I got my hopes up, but after reading so many stories about people getting better it just kinda sucks I'm getting worse again. I also started coughing up tons of nasty for the first 2 or so weeks, and my smokers cough pretty Much dissaappeared. Now my smokers cough is back, hacking and coughing and not coughing anything up.
Basically I'm writing this to ask: Has anyone else had this happen? Has anyone else gotten WORSE after switching? Does anyone know why my smokers cough came back? Will I get better again or will I just keep getting worse? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

While I haven't experienced this personally I have read that it takes a few months for your lungs to expel all the tar and gunk that we've put in them over the years of tobacco use. In my own experience the first couple weeks that I was vaping I still smoked @ two cigarettes a day. During that time I only coughed up a little bit of the brown stuff. But just today I was having sneezing fits and blowing out the gunk through my nose. (bleh!:nah:)

My breathing hasn't gotten worse though. Maybe with your asthma it'll take a little more time and some different symptoms than mine. Might not be a bad idea to ask your Doctor his opinion.
Good luck! :toast:

Since we're talking about your health, you doctor should be the first person you see about it.

That said, here's what I've experienced. I'm a DIY fanatic. As such I started mixing my own liquids right from the start thanks to having family members who have been vaping for years. I bought *many* different flavors to add to my mix. I noticed after a few weeks that I would get a dry cough the next day after vaping with certain flavors. After doing a bit of searching on the Net, I came to realize that PG is often used in flavors. Most flavors are safe for cooking, but how do we know they are safe to inhale? I know my mother is really allergic to PG, so I cut out my flavoring entirely and only mixed my nicotine with VG.

During this time I was also concerned about the silica wicks. I'd heard that silica has the potential to peel off micro fiberous shards when dry hit. This reminded me of fiberglass in many ways. There's a lot of "back and forth" in terms of safety about this, so, if this is a real concern/problem I am not certain. But, I switched to cotton wicking anyway. A bit more work to maintain than silica wicks. Long story short: I have no cough unless I vape (and inhale) flavored mixes. I really like the subtle sweetness of VG, so it's all I vape anymore.

I would suggest that you get just a VG (or PG, since that's what your inhaler's main transfer ingredient will be) with the nicotine levels you are using. Maybe one of the more knowledable vapers can give tips as to where to order this premixed? Use it for a few days and see how it goes? Hope this helps!

I found this on the "Info Zone" of ECF and thought it might help:
