Hello, I'm William Cain.

I'm still new to the electronic cigarette world, so much so that I haven't yet purchased a personal vaporiser. I was pretty interested in the 510, but several -very- vocal fans of the VK sent me this way to at least have a looksee, and I'm definitely interested.

Here's the basics of what I'm looking to accomplish;

I have fairly frequent panic attacks. During the very worst of these, I tend to smoke a kretek/clove cigarette or two, just to level out the very worst of things. It's probably quite psychosomatic, but it helps to have that slight nicotine hit, and I despise plain cigarettes. Now it seems I won't be able to get these things anymore, thanks to a certain ban. (coincidentally, I'm sure, one of the VK fans mentioned V4L's clove cartomizers)

Given that I usually smoke one Djarum black or two Djarum cherry kreteks for my worst attacks, what level of nicotine should I purchase if I were to go with the VK? Also, since I was leaning toward manual operation, how sensitive is the cartomizer to noise and air pressure? I have heard that automatics tend to be a little tempermental.

Thank you in advance,

William Cain, RHP

VK autos are just like a regular cigarette not tempermental at all when in pocket or carry around yet pulls just as easy as an analog. I havn't tried to clove flavor yet but the other flavors are great :) The VK is the easiest and most convenient to use. If you need quick access to nic via vape during a panic attack you will want the VK. With the 510 and other models its a fuss with constant juice refills and short battery life from what I hear. I have an NPRO and a VK i almost always use the VK accept if I feel like tasteing a new juice I ordered I'll drop some on the atty of the NPRO.

I was a bit...ehem...vocal, but it got you over here! So given your history, I would say 16mg will probably do ya. But, since Steve will do snack packs of various flavors, I would recommend asking him if he will mix your cartomizer pack with various strenghts of the Clove rather than various flavors. That way you are covered regardless. I think you will be very happy with your choice if you give the Vapor King a shot.

William,

The clove cartomizers are really fantastic. Really good throat hit, tastes and smells great. Grimmer is working on a Djarum mix. You might check with him about that.

The VK batteries do NOT work by sound. They use vacuum pressure. That's to say the battery only cuts on when you pull on it. Sound has no effect.

Nicotine: How much do you normally smoke? Most packs of cigs sold in the US say 1.1mg. That's around 22mg a pack. One cartomizer is about equal to one pack. Now different people absorb nicotine at different rates. I think the common way that's suggested is start low and if it isn't enough go higher. When I first got my VK I had some 24mgs. I took three draws and got dizzy. So I try to stick around the 11mg level.

YMMV.

Panda04;

I mentioned, but I think it got buried in my WALL O TEXT.

When I have an episode, as I call them, I will usually smoke a single Djarum black, or two Djarum cherry kreteks. I have never smoked more than three over a single 24 hour period except when my mother passed away in '05, and that was a different sort of day altogether.

Hi again William,

I just wasn't sure if you smoked more than the the special times you mentioned. Start with 0mg. If that doesn't do it then go up from there. It doesn't sound to me you are a nicotine fiend like the rest of us. ;) Phoenix's suggestion about getting different levels of clove seems sound to me.

Automatics in general tend to be at least somewhat tempermental because of the fact that theyre automatic. That said, ive had both and still use only automatics.

The VK uses an air pressure switch, but it's the lightest draw on the market. While it's not a sound switch, it is probably the most sensitive switch out there, primarily because to get a VK to produce the kind of vapor volume you expect from a PV, you have to draw low and slow, and thats a tall order for an automatic battery.

I have not had sound fire one, Impact will turn it on and immediately off, and even in the event of some kind of catastrophic switch failure, it has an 8 second cutoff so its not going to go horribly wrong in your pocket.

Ive had the VK for a month or so now, and the day i got it all of my other PV junk went in a box..a week later all that other stuff went to my sister.

Another bonus to the VK is storage of cartomizers. They have these little rubber plugs/caps that keep cartomizers fresh for extended periods of time. You say you smoke very infrequently..but when you want it you want it. As such a cartomizer requires no maintenance other than having a battery charged and ready. You can break out a cartomizer, uncap it, and expect it to be just as fresh as the day you bought it.

With 901's and other pvs once you open a cart, thats it...resealing it is semi possible..on one end at least...then there's juice leakage and it still dries out given time. Vk carts are a little better in this regard for infrequent smokers/vapers.

There is no atomizer cleaning, no worrying about keeping piles of spare parts available for failures. when a cartomizer dies you can just toss it. I vape like mad so i refill mine..but in your case you could use and recap a cartomizer for a while and when it finally starts to get ugly just whiz it and grab another. VK is probably the best solution for your situation in my opinion.

you will like smilins clove cartomizers. I know he is still working on the flavs of his cartomizers. They are already very good but smilin is never satisfied until they are perfected. Even then he will still try to make em even better. You wont be disapointed with the clove flavor. If your not addicted to nicotine or if your not worried about the level of nicotine I think either the lowest level or zero level will be just fine for you for the occasional smoker. The flavor will be just as good as 36mg level so dont worry about the flavor. The only difference you will notice is the throat hit. But there is still a nice kick to 6mg level. Thats all I vape is 6mg and haven't complained yet...

Before you get into mixing juices I would first get acquainted with vaping first to see if you like it. It is different but to me its 1000 times better than smoking. I love the VK its my favorite when out of the house. There is no need for dripping or refilling carts. one cartomizer should last you all day( 8-10 hour work day) if your a pack a day smoker. But the new cartimizers Smilin has been raving about should last way longer.

I love the minthol, mint, and clove the most. Even though I have other flavs I love, I still end up vaping those three most. I was a Camel turkish gold smoker myself with the occasion once a day djarem black after dinner.

All I can say is give it a try.

Well, that settles it for me. That's the first really specific explanation tailored to my intended usage and situation, and I'm impressed with it. I think when I have the money to get it, I'll grab a VK starter set and a sampler pack.

Is it possible to contact Smilin through this forum specifically, to talk over my needs and interests?

clearly I dont get out much. I never smoked cloves save once and that turned out to be a mistake.

It really showed that I don't get out much when i realized I never heard of a Djarem untill like 30 min ago. No closer to knowing what it is now either lol.

Kc0cmp,

Djarem is an Indonesian kretek (clove cigarette).

Sadly, cloves got wrapped up in the flavor ban here in the states. Part of my reason for switching to ecigs in the first place!

someone gave me once once, Apparently they dont agree with everyone, I won't say i was holding a sign for the ban, but i remember it. I will say I'll never smoke another one LOL.
