I’m flying to Puerto Vallarta in 2 weeks. I’ve heard conflicting information about bringing my ecig through customs on the Mexico side. I have an itaste MVP so you know how that looks like some sort of electronic box and not really like an ecig.

What do you think – I don’t want it to be confiscated, I won’t make it a week in Mexico without vaping! Should I just get a cheap e-go for the week and bring that instead? At least I can dismantle that and put the parts in my makeup bag.

Some info I found says that they are illegal to bring into Mexico to begin with. Help, I’m sorta freaking out!

Last time I went, I noticed a few vaping stores in Puerto Vallarta, and of course they are a tourist resort, so I would think the customs agents are very familiar with vaping gear. I've not flown in to PV (ha, ha, PV... sorry) with an e-cig so I can't comment on specifics.

I would get yourself an e-go type battery and take that with you - travel through customs with it fully assembled, so it looks like what it is - an e-cig. Maybe split your liquids into carry-on and checked baggage, stored in original containers if possible - maybe include a copy of your receipt or invoice from where you purchased it. Not sure if it's necessary but that's what I would do.

I go through the land border all the time with my e-cig and I have never had any issues at all. I openly vape crossing the border both ways and have had maybe 2 comments - both on the US side with them asking what flavor I was vaping.

You can find more information (there is a specific post about going to Mexico, but the info is limited) in the Travel and E-Cig forum.

MX authorities know what your MVP is, and won't give it a second glance unless you're bringing a dozen brand new packaged units in for resale. However, they do want the MVP in your carry-on, since it's a battery. Everything else vape-related can go in either carry-on or checked baggage, whatever you prefer, but they definitely want anything that's a battery in your carry on. Batteries in checked baggage risk being confiscated on both sides of the border.

Batteries in carry-on = "no pasa nada".
