As all things go on teh interwebz, I'm casting bread upon the water in case some hungry ducks might find sustenance (or an excuse to carb load). Started smoking when I was 16, quit a couple of times but never for more than a month. I enjoyed smoking cigs. Had no real desire to quit.
Got sick last fall to the point where I physically couldn't smoke, and switched over to the mini Nicorette mints (along with a course of antibiotics and an inhaler). Kept me off the cigs for about three months. Lung capacity and overall coughiness was better, but my voice (which started cutting out when I got sick) wasn't getting any better. Also had hiccups frequently when I took the Nicorettes, and I wasn't having any success tapering down on them. I had a couple of "social" cigs for a special occasion in December, followed by stress/trigger/"Jesus I need a smoke" events. Stuck with the Nicorette up until I was ready to go buy a pack of smokes because the little cigarette candies weren't cutting it.
Rewind to my vaping history: I had tried a couple of cigalikes before. The original Blu with the blue LED pseudo-burning tip (my rating: it was better than not smoking anything, but fell short of satisfying), and a few years later the Mark 10 (better than the Blu, but still not a plausible substitute for actual cancer sticks). I knew people doing mech mods, wrapping coils and stuffing cotton, and it seemed like a conflagration of smoking and working on a vintage car that I so did not want to get into, with a side of born-again Christian devotion to vaping. Given the choice of straightforward, easy cigs vs McGyver'ing a vape setup, I was so down with cigs!
So in December, I was three months cig-free and about to fall off the wagon. Looking for an alternative, I fell back on some wisdom an older dude shared with me many years ago: look to the children, and they will show us the way. I bought a Juul starter kit, and for the first time I sucked on an e-cig and thought "this is actually plausible as a substitute for the real thing." It was satisfying enough to fight off the urge for a real cig, and available at any convenience store. And it came in a tobacco flavor!
Two days later, Altria bought a huge chunk of Juul. They must have heard the same advice I did about going with what the teenagers like. In light of the Altria purchase (and the overall cost of Juul) I decided it made sense for me to investigate alternatives. Bought an Orion DNA Go because of form factor, and some 25mm Nic salt in a Tobacco flavor. Almost as portable as the Juul, way cheaper to operate, and software adjustments really helped dial it in to be mostly satisfying. A couple of weeks later I added an Innokin Kroma A with the Zenith tank to the mix. This has given me the perfect mix of equipment - the Innokin with 12mg freebase when I'm at home, the Orion when I'm on the go (or to easily swap juices), and the Juul as a security blanket backup.
Still not looking to get into wrapping my own coils, wrap batteries, or "squonk the mod to gleam the cube" but I've set the Nicorette candies aside and I have no desire to go back to real cigs. As I've figured out my next moves with vape hardware, this forum has been an invaluable resource. Thanks to all who post here for helping me remain cig-free and uninterested in going back to burning tobacco!
