Pack/pack-n-a-half per day American Spirit Yellow smoker. 10+ years.

Was at an event on July 4th where I couldn’t smoke so I reluctantly bought a JUUL on the way to the event.

I was amazed.

I finished the pack of smokes I had the next morning and haven’t had a cig since July 5th.

Same for my wife. She hit the JUUL and like me hasn’t had a cig since that weekend. We bought her one that same night when I brought mine home.

We blew through the starter packs and I quickly found a way to start re-filling JUUL PODS with third party juice. Plus the JUUL liquids are too harsh.

That worked great but as we decrease nicotine levels I wanted a similar device that can burn the lower nic juice.

Plus, I’m tired of refilling pods and then having to vape some JUUL pods to use those for refilling purposes. Found out the hard way that a JUUL pod can only be refilled two or three time...

So, last Thursday I bought a SMOK NORD.

I like the look, the feel and the theoretical function, but from day one this thing was spitting at me like an angry snake.

Took it back to the store. Got a lesson on how to properly prime the coil and talked about different techniques to use when taking a drag.

Uh, yeah...nothing has gotten better. I’ve cleaned everything multiple times, changed the coils, changed the juice, change the juice brand, different nic level juice...

While it doesn’t spit hot juice onto my lips/tongue as it did that first day, I’m still surprised at how much juice gets in my mouth on every drag. My wife won’t even touch it, let alone use it.

I’ve gone as far as shoving a tiny piece of cotton into the mouthpiece but after 10-15 pulls it so saturated I have to remove it.

I’m attempting to attach a couple of photos. One is a paper towel I use to cover the mouthpiece when taking a hit, the other is the small piece of saturated cotton.

Meanwhile, I’ve switched back to my JUUL. It’s a pain to refill the pods but I’m tired of getting juice in my mouth.

Any suggestions on how to make the Nord work without coating my tongue/gums with juice? When I hit it through the paper towel, the piece of cotton or even a T-shirt, I love the extra flavor and warmth of it compared to the JUUL but I’m done with the juice in my mouth.

Ultimately we both want a device similar to the JUUL. Small, sleek, uses nic-salts, refillable. If you don’t have suggestions on how to make my $60 Nord Investment work, then what about other devices?

Have you checked out the Boulder Rock?
These are very similar to the JUUL in looks except they can be refilled and are super easy to use!
Here is a photo. I hope this link is okay mods? The kit comes with an eliquid of their choosing but you can use any type of eliquid though I don't recommend the high VG juices. 50/50 is great for pods or nic salts which are actually less harsh!

Paper towell will get soggy even if the coil doesnt spit juice.

I understand it should be moist. But not brown, the same color as the liquid. Did you not see the photo of the piece of cotton I covered the hole with? Completely saturated after 5-10 pulls on the Nord.

I’ve done the paper towel hit with the JUUL and now the Drop...joist moist, non brown.

Besides, I can taste/feel the juice in my mouth.

With regards to the pull strength, that may be the issue as I’m use to pulling on either a real cigarette or the JUUL. I’ll take the coil out, drain it, dry it, Re-Prime it and try to hit it a little softer. I hope that works because I like absolutely everything else about the device. In fact, I’m keeping it on my nightstand and using a paper-towel to still hit it.

I’ve attached a photo of all the juices I’ve run through the Nord. Same result with each. Not sure what the PG/VG ratio is for each.

All of these same juices have also been run through a JUUL and I don’t get juice in my mouth. The flavor on the Nord is sooo much better though.

I’m running the Salt Factory Crisp Apple in the Sourin Drop right now with no issue.

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions. I’m going to look at those other devices.

Too late to the party...

Hello & welcome.

May I kindly recommend the Vladdin RE? It's a similar format to the Juul, with easily refillable pods. It's very MTL and a nice, pleasant vape that doesn't spit much, if at all. It's been around for a year or so and pods should be fairly easy to find online. I've been using mine for a while (not exclusively) and it's great. The draw activation works well and it doesn't take too long to recharge.

Good luck!

Like others, I would ask for you to give as many details as possible. Learn about the VG/PG ratios of juices. Sometimes, it may not be the device, but how you are using it (although it's also very often the device) Maybe even something as simple as : do you tilt it way up high when vaping, do you lay it on it's side when not vaping, do you keep it in a hot car or even your warm pocket, do you draw super hard on it? So many people here to help (especially for someone trying to quit the cigs!) All these little details will help us solve the mystery ;)

Um the mystery might be that the SHOP did not want to deal with the Nord. He gave you a coil, but did not want to help you find out if it was WORKING.

You need to find out the shop's return policy and RETURN it (30 days is kind of standard.) Unless it's been longer than that, yes you may have to contact Smok for refund/replacement.

It's easy to assume a new vaper is not using his equipment properly but it seems to me like you TRIED a lot. Your replacement Nord may well be everything you desire.

You only prime new / unused coil heads, once.
There is no reason to re prime a head that is already saturated, in fact over saturating the wicking material is what causes flooding, spitting / liquid in mouth.

The Nord is sensitive to higher PG juice. Any higher than 35, and it will leak.

Also, I was living mine until the last three coils I've tried were duds. Two spit juice, and one actually came apart during insertion.

It could be as simple as a whole box of bad coils.

High PG (over 30%) and warm temps the juice can be surprisingly thin. And yes, I've had many bad experiences with coils... sometimes not my fault. Nothing against the vape shop, but you are better off asking people here and just ordering stuff. Part of me want's to support the local shop, but got bad advice, bad juice, and bad coils from my local shop ( of course I went in there and said "I don't anything" kind of walking sucker) or maybe they were just idiots... it was also a smoke shop, not just vaping. Get a better device. many closeout sales on small mod kits. Then keep the pods for backup/carry around.

It's your juice, you most prob got 50/50, you need to get 70/30, my nord also spit at me when i go 50/50 vg/pg. Look on your bottle and tell us what is says, if your vg/pg ratio is 50/50 get something bit thicker aka 70/30.
Most guys thinks because it's a pod you must use 50/50, but not with the nord.

It appears all of my juices are 50/50...at least the N8Ked Nic Salts are. The other bottles do not clearly indicate. I'll try a different ratio and see if that works.

have you checked what Elvis said above? You may be over-priming. I did when first started. Good luck.
To prime it I have been filling the pod and letting it sit for anywhere between 10 minutes and multiple hours.

When I say "re-prime" it I mean when I change the juice I will take the coil out and let it drain a little to get as much of the old juice out. Then upon inserting the coil back into the pod and re-filling it I will let it sit for a while to soak in the new juice.

The same goes for when I thought I had flooded the coil. Remove, drain, insert, refill, let it sit.

Any recommendations for a flavorful 70/30 Nic Salts you've used?

Get what profile you like.
What i would recommend is first try to get a cheap 70/30 to make sure it will solve the prob before going all out, just make sure it is 70/30 because 90% of high nic salts is 50/50. I use fresh pressed but also other brands .. it's up to you what profile you like.

What you can do is get a 30ml normal 6/12 mg freebase and test with that, 30ml is usually cheap, just make sure to go 70/30 and not max vg, that wont wick so good.

When you get a chance ad your country to your profile so the people from the same side of the world can make suggestions for vape shops / online shops

You could also try adding some VG to the juice you have. Either I missed it or you didn't state where you live but VG (Vegetable Glycerin AKA Glycerin) is available at pharmacies. Walmart sells what they call Glycerin in their pharmacy. Make sure it's USP grade or equivalent. You might need to ask because it's a small bottle and hard to find.

Holy Cow...it was that simple. At least I hope.
Called four shops locally before finally finding one that had a 70/30 Nic Salt in stock.
Stopped by the local Cloud 9 and grabbed one of their house brand flavors (Iced Green Apple/Grape).
Filled the empty pod and dry coil up about 90% full.
Waited 15-20 minutes.
Happy to say I am about 15-20 pulls into it with ZERO juice in my mouth.

Enjoy, the nord bit different than other pods, but one of the few good products from smok.
Just check the nord's mouth piece's all have a flaw, well all 4 of mine does.
The mouth piece will leak juice in the contact points, just every now and then take of the pod and wipe the contact points clean.
It's a common flaw but it is there, you will notice some time it wont fire or only for a short time, just wipe and you good to go.
