So...how's everyone?

Quit smoking ten years ago, when I made the realisation that I could not figure my cigarette habit into my post-divorce budget--and simultaneously have enough leftover Andys to pay the light bill.

Chomped on nic gum. Pepper corns. Ghost peppers. To kill the cravings for analogs.

On a whim--bought a Blu cig at a gas station whilst pulling a graveyard, 3 years ago. Thought 'what a BRILLIANT concept'.

Moved on to Evods and Protanks, autumn 2013.

Gennys were all the rage. By Christmas 2013, I was a rebuilding fool. Other than disposables that I purchased at truck stops--everything that I have purchased has been online*.

I have 'scienced out' all of the rebuildables that I have ordered, throughout these past few years. Rebuilding--for whatever reason--calms me down. Making stainless mesh wicking workable in any rba that I own gives me a triumphant sense of satisfaction. Stainless steel mesh provides an immediate feedback either way--wrt if you are coiling your rba correctly , or o so obviously wrong....

In short, I really, REALLY do enjoy the hobby aspect of vaping. And I really, REALLY appreciate the team support that forums such as ECF give--to all of us getting over the addiction to cigarettes.

Peace--GC, aka DB Cooper lol

Hi and welcome. I built my first set of mesh wicks a couple weeks ago-- I'm a rayon man-- and they turned out well, which surprised me. I am not certain I like them well enough to go to the effort versus rayon, but they are very clean tasting. Welcome to the board.

Thank You @suprtrkr!!

I've never tried rayon. Been thinking to maybe try a fibrous-type of wicking core inside of mesh
It's a thought. Are you exceeding the capacity of the mesh to wick? Coarser mesh might fix that. I have done composites before. I tried a "semi-Scottish-Roll" technique, where I rolled some Egyptian short-staple cotton core inside an outer wrap, using both long staple cotton and rayon for different trials. The idea was to get better wicking on the outer fibers, while leaving the short staple in the center to hold an accumulation of juice near the coil. It worked just fine, but I never felt it bested the performance of rayon alone sufficiently to make the effort of building them worth while, kind of the way I think of mesh wick. I mean, it's great, but what for? In any event, if killer juice transport is what you're after, it's not easy to beat rayon. I, and many other people, notice a taste to rayon on a brand new wick, sort of a mild, dry hit flavor; you can taste the wick a bit. But it goes away after the first tankful or so, and thereafter tastes cleaner than anything I have ever tried, save mesh, and even there it's an equal. I will say, with mesh, if you have oxidized it properly-- I burnt the .... out of mine-- there's no break in at all, which is a bonus.

One of these days I'll break out those ceramic rods I bought, God know why, and give them a try. I have a dripper with a Genny style deck-- low outers, tall center post-- where they'd work beautifully...

Ceramic is supposed to be the 'bees knees'. I am too klutzy to try it.

Really like 200 mesh. Most of the eliquids that I like contain higher vg. That--plus I have a sweet tooth--and live in a colder climate adds to wicking issues at times. I like how durable the mesh can be. But even mesh breaks down, after a while.

I know silica can withstand a dry burn. Can rayon be dry-burned as well?

No. Not a good plan. It can, be washed and reused-- not that I know anybody who does, it's too cheap--but that won't help as a core in a mesh wick.
