Just built my Mutation X for the first time (also happens to be my first dripper build and first dual coil build... and first build for my new Workhorse).

26ga, 8/9 wraps on a 3/32" mandrel, wicked with rayon. I seem to have nailed the wicking on the first try. DMM reads it a .6ohm. I figured I'd start out kind of conservative - am I'm glad I did. This thing hits like a beast. My previous "best" vape was my 1.2ohm'd eleaf Lemo on my DNA30 box running 23W.

My first duals (not very pretty but functional):

My new "ultimate" vape rig (still need to tweak the Workhorse for the VTC5 and MutX to get the atty to sit flush):

I like to push my coils a little more toward the center post but yours will do fine. Make sure to raise your coils so they are even with the middle three hole row. That will give you the best flavor and vapor.

With a little manipulation, moved the cotton around and made sure the air holes aligned with the coils, she's a beast! I'm surprised how fast my ipv2 drains but the vapor is absurd compared to a nautilus mini. The flavor of my fuzion orphan tears - kiwi cream - is profoundly delicious. I wasn't a fan of the juice in my clearomizer. Cannot wait for my Kayfun. I still haven't brought my rda to work. Feels like too much of a pain but I'm sure I'll do it soon enough.

Big shout out to the Mute-X - great all-rounder if built right!

Had mine all of one day, and already gone through 4 builds - 2 micro, 1 vertical and finally settled on a modified nano dragon.

Horizontal micro coils seem to work best with the air flow tuned down to 3 holes, otherwise I'm getting a lot of cold air mix and not enough heat/flavour and vapour.

My best build was a modified nano-dragon - 0.55Ω, built with 28ga, 6 wraps around a 20ga syringe (0.9mm). I built it angled up and to the left, so it matches the airflow holes, and centred it vertically with the holes. Centre wicked with KGD, tails just touching the deck. I can run full open and still get great flavour, and the heat level and vapour is still satisfying.

Anyone else with a killer build to share?

I'm back with more news.

So, I got my first mech and having to learn to build all over. I'm using my IPV2 as an ohm reader (temporarily) and I've tried .2 ohms and .3 ohm builds and I'm finding them to be a bit overwhelming. Even with low nic juice, literally 1 second hits are beastly. I'm looking for a more conservative, ADV type quality.

Will .6-.8 fit the bill? Also, will this improve battery life?

As far as alignment goes, do you think having the coils towards the center post makes for the best performance? I've been using horizontal coils, spaced evenly between the outer/middle post on both sides.

I vape my MuteX right around .32 - .35Ω. I used to have it open with 6 holes per side but lately I've been vaping it with all holes save one each side and I find it to be a fantastic vape. I still adjust it frequently though.

Is it too hot for you? Why are you not enjoying it?

Absolutely it will increase battery life.

For me it does. That's where I have mine evidenced by my previously posted images in this thread.

The vape isn't too hot. It's very dry, almost cottony on my throat. It feels like "cotton" lung lol. I think I may not be wicking properly. I'm going to try keeping it more loose and fluffy - only twisting the end. I feel like it's not wicking 100%. I'm very perceptive of my body and so I pick up on any issue pretty quick :x

My wicks currently feel somewhat snug in the coil, but they're very skinny on both sides. I see most people have wicks that fluff out on the ends and I think the lack of that may be causing issues. Also, may be too packed.

I recently re-wicked the MuteX and took some pix. Posted this in another MuteX thread so I'm not sure if you've seen it or not...

Needed to re-wick as one of my wicks had collapsed so I thought I'd take some pix of the way I do it with rayon.

i know this is old thread but why coils so far from posts? it may hit that air thing on cap when you turn it, be carefull.

Do you guys who own this prefer coils on center or at sides?

That's actually an old build on the v1. I now use the v2 instead.

I like my coils as close to the air hole as possible so that's why they are so far out from the posts. And no, they do not touch the sleeve.

I like my coils on the MuteX exactly as shown. Centered.

I move my coils over a bit, like 1/2 between center/side. I like my coils as close to the posts as possible without touching now. However, I haven't put my coils near the edge like that yet. I've figured out my issues with wicking - I was dumb and compressing them far too much after watching some youtubers do it that way.

The Mutation X is very awesome :). I'm enjoying it at .25 ohms right now, 24g, 3mm. :D Very good. I do like how you can vary your vaping experience - wide open vs 1 hole. Very neat.

The Magma, Veritas, and Orchid v4 are on the way from China. Thank god for FastTech... there's no way in hell I'd be able to try out anything without it.
