Let me start off with my setup, Penny mod, Mutation X, using an efest 10a battery.

Currently running a 28g A1kanthal .65ohm dual coil on a 1.5mm madrel, and it vapes pretty good, but I am looking for a warmer vape, do I need to start using 24g kanthal to get where i want to be? All I have is 28g but I can buy 24g. i always wandered how running a 2wire twisted set up would make a difference and maybe a triple wire.

Any insight would be great.

Well if you used thicker wire (24 gauge) and made a 0.65 ohm dual coil, you'd get a cooler vape;
but you might instead make a 0.3 ohm dual coil, draw more power from the mech, and end up with a warmer vape that way.

Or, if you used a thinner wire like 30 gauge and made a 0.65 ohm dual coil, you'd definitely get a hotter vape.
but then, you might use more wraps and instead make a 1 ohm dual coil and end up with a cooler vape.

Going to 24 gauge wire at 0.65 ohms will cool the vape because it increases coil surface area. This of course means that going the other way should help.

I have a Mutation X set up at 0.2 ohms with dual coils and 24 gauge Kanthal. It's a cool vape with fully charged batteries and 6 air holes open. Using the Steam Engine coil wrapping calculator and inputting 60 watts this is what it looks like. Here's what yours looks like. Note that my heat flux is 368 milliW/mm² and yours is 137 mW/mm². Heat flux is the amount of heat per coil surface area. Too much and you'll burn juice. Too little and you're not going to get the coil hot enough which is your situation.

IMO the setup you've got now is not going to be able to make a warm vape no matter what you do. If you go to 30 gauge wire your heat flux goes to 274 mW/mm² which is in the ballpark for a good vape. I think at this point if you close down air holes and don't inhale as much you'll get a warmer vape. The MX is really not designed for this low power level, but because you can close the air flow to less than one hole per side I suspect it may just surprise us both :)

The other alternative is to go to a single coil setup. That puts double the power into the one coil, but the MX only does dual air holes so that's not a good plan.

The other alternative is to get higher amp batteries and lower your resistance.

before you experiment any more STOP!! why someone didn't tell you to get a better battery is a mystery to me. If you would like a warmer vape then you need a higher drain battery first. Don't worry about the gauge yet and certainly don't try to do double or triple twisted on your 10A, that will only lead to disaster and injury. I suggest getting an efest 25A if you like efest(i personally hate them). If you would like a better battery than an efest get a sony, doesn't matter what version of VTC you get, VTC3,4, and even apparently 5's are coming back(although i question their authenticity). I personally would use a Samsung 25R or an MXJO or an IMREN. These batteries are great high drain and they have lower internal resistance than your efest so they will kick harder faster.

On to how to get a warm vape. Yes twisting some 28,26, or 24 will be getting a warmer vape. I personally have only ever gone up to a triple twisted 24g at 6 wraps, and it was warm. But here is the thing, you don't need to twist wire or parallel it to get a warmer vape. Try a 24 at 5/6 wraps around a 2mm diameter, try that. Or a 22g 6/7 wrap around the same diameter. Of course this is only once you have gotten a better battery.

On how to twist wire properly. First off look up twisted messes. He has a good tutorial on how to twist wire. Try a triple twisted 28 or 26 gauge and remember to flatten it like twistedmesses does. If you would like to do 24 or even 22(i advise against twisting 22) try double twisted and flatten it. If you would like smaller clouds and a warm-but-not-warm-as a flattened then don't flatten it, it will have better flavor, but not as warm and not as big of clouds.

Best of luck to you, and also try to close off some of the air holes, but if you do twisted, then leave them all open to get some good warmth and flavor.

PLEASE GET A HIGHER DRAIN BATTERY IF YOU ARE GOING TO ATTEMPT ANY OF THE TWISTED OR 22 OR 24G BUILDS. PLEASE!!!!

hope this helps a bunch:laugh:

I read everything and I will get a new battery before I try building with bigger wire. I have been looking at the 25r or any vtc but I cannot get any shipped overseas right now.

So far my lowest build that i put to use was .56ohm, but I tend to stay above .65ohm since I did not want to overload my battery.

I want to say thanks you jdake3265 and Ryedan! You have given me some reading and thinking to do while I'm out here.

dude Samsung 25r or even mxjo's are becoming pretty standard at most B&M's

BTW killer avatar pic

also anything twisted below 26g will be around .4-.1ohm unless its like 8 wraps which with twisted would not fit on most attys. unless its a 26650 atty/mod combo, which might be a good idea for you as your "warm setup". Most 26650 batteries can handle higher amp builds and have way longer battery life so you could definitely vape on it longer, but if you vape something warm for extended periods of time like chain vaping it might make your throat feel moist for a while.
