Hey guys,

I thought perhaps we might all find this useful at some point or another and I really like to see ideas like this come out.

Repairable Atomizers are out there, however IMO they are still in a neonatal stage of development. I have dabbled a bit when it comes to designing atties but I don't have very good equipment and all of my experiments ended without success.

A2 From BulliSmoker

This is the first DIY atty that I have honestly even considered trying, it looks large but not as big as it's older brother.

A while ago, I found this device from BulliSmoker here in the Canadian Forum (No idea who posted it originally) but this is the A1.

Atomizer Anatomy

This is a good video to explain what is in a traditional atomizer and how it works. Essentially it is akin to a light bulb coil but it doesn't require a vacuum, instead it requires liquid. Ni-chrome coils are the standard rather than tungsten for this application as well.

So does anyone use a repairable atomizer system? And if so what do you think about it?

There's an extremely elaborate electronics shop near me. I'm going to go see what materials they sell, some high temp non conductive plug style end, like in the video, would be a perfect base to start with. They may even carry the wire used. Would just be a matter of finding a good gauge for resistance.

NoizMaker: I just today tried what you suggested in the other post, and removed my wick. WOW! Best mod so far lol..

I just purchased the ato-mizer kit from Nhaler through the classifieds on the weekend but I have to wait for it to come from Hungary when it gets here I will let you know how it works out.

Very cool VapourGuy, I notice that Happy Vaper also has these in stock. What timing! I may have to try it myself when I can throw down that much on an atty.

Very cool heXy, I enjoy my atties wickless a lot however it is not suitable for cartridge/ smart cart use. Not the end of the world IMHO but it is something to keep in mind for future atties.

I have links to most of the homemade attys and saved them for a rainy day. Glad to see the A2 out (smaller) as the A1 was a Tonka. The next generation now seems to be straight rolled metal mesh, no nichrome wire. Until they come out of the neonatal stage LOL, a good portion of the designs require special tools/equipment (like a lathe) nonetheless it is nice to see folks working on this and some designs are better than others. I don't think the main stream market will head in that direction however, but I believe they will always be available from some modder or another.

haha Agreed Switched, that A1 is just massive and I fail to see how it could appeal to anyone but to each their own. Upon further research I have noticed how the ATO-MISER is just a smaller version of the A1 as well, optimized for dripping. I also completely agree that the commercial atomizer market won't fully embrace repairable atomizers. There is just not enough money in it to make it worthwhile for most companies.

I think that if anyone is going to go through the hassle of making your own atomizer or purchasing one akin to these, take a close look at the different systems that are out there and decide which one makes me most sense with your vaping style. At this point in time I think the ATO-MISER is for drippers while the A2 is strictly for cartridge users (stating the obvious but someone might not have caught it).

My guess at what my "perfect" DIY atty would be is; the appearance of the A2 but the functionality of an ATO-MISER (not that I have tried either to know) but I basically want something that looks like an atty (even if oversized), doesn't leak and is dripping compatible. Alas I do not own a lathe.

Just wanted to throw this out there. I'm using the Shredded PTB Cart Mod in my 510 carts, and with the wick removed, it's actually vaping MUCH better. I normally drip while at home, but when out I'm armed with the PCC and a few loaded carts just in case.

Time will tell I suppose. I was thinking it might flood easier, but so far so good.

I ordered an eGO pass-through battery, atty cover and drip tip, so I might start dripping even when out and about...

Does anyone else do this? or do they pack cartridges when out for the convenience?

VapeMate or sometimes cartomizers do it for me out on the road.

Someday I see a working tank system with an accurate/precise drip feed to our choice of atty coming...... but until then, it is what it is with new doodads coming out every few months or so now. As the numbers grow, so does the memberbase working knowledge backgrounds and capabilities. It can only get better imho.

Got My Ato-Miser the other day.

    First impressions:
Wow this is cool now I have a completely self serviceable e-cigarette (P18 purely mechanical + Ato-Miser)

Even though the Ato-Miser is pretty big compared to regular atomizer, winding the nichrome wire and attaching to terminals was like working in the engine compartment of a car that has no room to fit tools.

Takes a bit of patience and delicateness. After about 5 minutes. It wa all assembled and ready to try.

Do not puff on it right away, you need to blacken the nichrome. And it takes a good while to get that nichrome black.

Once it was going I was impressed with the vapour production. Not quite as much flaovur as my goto cisco 306LR Atties.

More to come as I use it a little more.

    Regards,
    Rob

That is actually pretty cool and not a system I had considered. If the PTB is making contact with the mesh and still wicking with no issues then that is pretty cool.

Couldn't agree more. I can hardly believe there will be a day when I look at my old devices and think 'Man, did I really vape on THAT?!' lol but it will come. The possibilities are endless and we are just seeing the beginning right now.

Thank you for the input Rob! Much appreciated. That report sounds very similar to VapingMonkey's on the A2 which doesn't come as much of a surprise considering pretty much the same coil is used. The Ato-Miser might be huge but I would imagine you can just drip with it and you're done... No fiddling with carts. Look forward to hearing the update.
