building a 5v box mod

okay i got a 5v regulator from ti, if i wanted to just make a 5v box mod, instead of using these boards i see people using, can i just connect the poss lead from the parrelelled batts to the pin of the regulator to the right and then another wire from the lead all the way to the left that goes to the switch and a negative on the middle to the neg terminal of the batteries? that sounds easier to me.

Not really and the batts have to be in series, not parallel.

Ya, He didn't wire the battery correctly in the drawing but to answer the question that was asked; No you don't need a board. They just make it easy to install everything, but the layout must be correct whether you use a board or not.

only if you run wire from left batt pos to right batt neg

edit: and you got the pins wrong on the TI
