Hi everyone! after some very helpful advice i've gotten from members on ECF, I finally purchased some kanthal wire and a new battery. I have 30awg kanthal and cotton to build a wick on my RSST. I built one using a 5/64 slotted screwdriver and did a 5/4 wrap. It read 1.8 when I put it on the ohm reader, but after dryburning it and vaping it, the coil now reads at 1.5. However, I noticed that I am not getting the vapor production I desire. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I'm assuming you're using that on a mechanical mod. If that's not correct, forget the rest of this ;).

In my experience with Genisis attys 1.5 ohms does not do much for me. I run my AGA-T at 0.5- 0.6 ohms. That's a 3/2 wrap with 27 gauge Kanthal on a 1/8" wick. With a good build, a 1/8" air hole and the right tilt technique it puts out a lot of vapor and flavor. It really all does have to be working together though to make it a good vape and keep it dependable.

Now that may be a bit aggressive for you, but I would suggest wraping in the neighborhood of 1'ish ohms and see how that goes, unless you're using a regulated mod which is a whole other process. I have the feeling it would be better for you. 1 ohms would be around 4A draw and 16 watts, so not too high. 28 gauge Kanthal would probably be better than 30 gauge, but I think both would work OK.

Good luck with it.

I'm using a sigelei number 8 mechanical mod. it has a side fire button on the base and a 3.7 volt 18650 AW battery. I'll be honest, i'm still a little scared of subohms since i'm just starting out building coils. I got a burnt taste at 1.5 ohm, so i made a 1.8. i've been vaping it for awhile, but I've noticed that when I put it back on the ohm reader, it now reads 1.9 ohms. Is this normal?
