I know... probably a stupid question. Well, this morning I was wrapping coils in RDAs and RBAs. Kept coming up too low resistance. I wanted at least .8 ohms. Realized that after I heat the coil or the wire, my resistance goes up to a higher number (have less resistance/a higher number). One coil I fired with no wick, just burnt up and fell apart. Gesh. Learning curve. Well came away with 2 good builds. Will work more on them tomorrow. Using 28 gauge Kanthal and also 28 gauge nickel. Any advice? Thanks so very much. Looked at a bunch of U-Tube videos and know how pretty much.

Welcome Joya!

What's the diameter of your coils? I don't use nickel, but kanthal. Then, when you fire the coil, on what power setting are you using?

I usually wrap 28g around a 3/32" or 1/8" drill bit. About 4-5 wraps. Then, after testing resistance, fire low (around 9W to check for hot spots.) I've never had a coil disintegrate. If you haven't been directed already, head out to Steam Engine | free vaping calculators That's got some great calculators for giving you an idea of how many wraps around what size of drill bit or mandrel to get you to your desired resistance. You can also tune it for the type of wire with which you're building.

To see previous posts, click on your name in the upper left of the ECF tool bar (where the "Welcome, Notifications, Settings, etc." is.) you can at least see the places where you've posted.
